if Trump were actively trying to impoverish and deskill the united states for the sake of our competitors, what would he be doing differently?

i am pretty confident that it will soon become the law that any effort to remedy racial inequality, private or public, will be illegal anti-white discrimination. fairness is, of course, when our institutions are lily white and male

The neatest bit of trivia from the Yacht Rock Documentary (yes I’m obsessed) is that Christopher Cross won the four big Grammys for “Sailing”: record of the year, song of the year, best arrangement, and best new artist. And no one did it again until Billie Eilish 39 years later.

This should go without saying, but it's okay if someone you don't agree with goes on a certain show or podcast. It's okay to be exposed to dissenting opinions. It's okay to feel uncomfortable. The biggest danger for the Democratic Party moving forward is the imposition of ideological purity tests.

It's up to Democratic officials whether they want to stop exclusively rewarding legacy media with their time and start validating the people who are actually advocating for their agenda. But until they make that decision, the asymmetry that cost Democrats this election will persist.

I continue to blame Garland for waiting much too long before appointing Smith and don’t agree that the delay the Sup Court deliberately engineered made Garland’s own delay irrelevant — but @barbmcquade.bsky.social convinces me here that Smith’s motion was exactly right

I can’t tell you how different it is on X now after so many people have left. I have always followed mostly right-wing accounts because I cover them, and they are running out of people to pick fights with. So they’re just mostly fighting with each other.

Legal and political struggle for justice can and should go hand in hand. Sam Moyn’s idea that it’s one or the other is foolish. Had Merrick Garland moved a year earlier to hold the Chief Insurrection accountable instead of snail-pacing, the history of this dark time would look entirely different.

Although President Biden could order an FBI background check of Tulsi Gabbard, she doesn’t need one. She already has an extensive file detailing her history of worrying relationships overseas.

President Biden can — and should — order the release of that file to the Senate. The question is, will he?

If Jack Smith writes a report and Garland releases it, that's actually a pretty baller move: releasing a report on an incoming president. If he doesn't release it, I'll join y'all in calling him an ineffective jerk.
