It did not start when the good guys showed legit identification and the bad guys ignored it.
Rather, as small children we knew Americans DO NOT HAVE TO SHOW IDENTIFICATION TO THE GOVERNMENT when out in public.

This man is gay and during my ADULT LIFE was denied full citizenship and humanity in the USA. The political values he supports wish to deny him these fundamental freedoms once again.

Oh, your thread is great without it, just having fun. We lived there for a few years and enjoyed the differences but never really got used to them. For example, beetroot on burgers was fine while there, inescapable really, but the habit did not make it back to the USA.
