€210 billion of Russia's money sits frozen in Brussels. Zelenskyy just told EU leaders: not using it tells Putin aggression pays.

🇪🇺🇺🇦 Confiscating Russian assets will show EU strength to the world, - Kallas

"This will send a strong signal to Russia that it cannot outlast Europe. We know that the Russian economy is in bad shape and they are clearly counting on us to fail, so we should not give it to them."

On both right and left, there's anger about the recent assessments of Russia's threat to the UK and the rest of Europe, and about the need for us to prepare to meet it. There's a lot I could say here (as my students know), but most of it boils down to two things. 🧵

I think the answer is "More than we think we can, but less than we need to be able to do". That definitely applies in the NB region, where our NATO Enhanced Forward Presence contribution is underpowered & a long way from potential reinforcements in a crisis.
What I ask every time when I talk to British officials is:

What are you able and willing to do without the US ?

Because that is the no. 1 question on my mind looking at the UK from the Nordic-Baltic region, where faith in the UK is perhaps even a bit unrealistically strong.
I agree. I understand the urge to keep trying to stop Trump doing more harm to UK interests, but Starmer & other European leaders need an honest conversation with voters about the effect of US abandonment on our security, & what we now need to do to protect ourselves.

It's interesting because the online model of masculinity today is everything that I was taught not to be. Whiney, self-centred, arrogant, narcissistic, unkind, vain, selfish.
I'm re-watching Magnum P.I. and I can't believe how vastly superior the 1980s ideal of masculinity is, vs today's whining, lying misogynist edgelord ideal that we see in culture all the way up to the Presidency.
The 50's stereotypical man had at least some other things to offer. Typically noble or stoic. Perhaps serving the greater good. Instead it's now a bunch of energy drink selfish neurotics who spend too much time at the gym and have no developed personality at all but being online.
