When I read “was” I feared the worst. Glad to hear Alfred is alive and kicking (and still having impact).

Catching up on recent posts on the CFRG mailing list.

Do I let this guy stay in the garage or gently remove him to a nice damp bit of garden?

Curve25519 is a false friend. Also isn’t it “defence” rather than “defense”? 🇬🇧

Would it be too salty to say how reassuring it is to find so many new experts in quantum computing and post quantum cryptography suddenly popping up over on LinkedIn?

Reading this gave me a lift - we are rapidly progressing to a carbon-free future, at least outside the US (who are being held back by extremist ideology and power of big oil lobbyists).

Globally, roughly a third more power is being generated from the sun this spring than last. If this exponential rate of growth can continue, we will soon live in a very different world, @billmckibben.bsky.social writes.
4.6 Billion Years On, the Sun Is Having a Moment
In the past two years, without much notice, solar power has begun to truly transform the world’s energy system.

bill this is the kind of mansplaining audacity that’s preserved in museums for future generations to learn from as a cautionary tale

this is mansplaining in the form of a long-term nuclear waste warning message

So yes, I do think I have a better insight than the president of the company. I'll wait while you try to remind me that Signal is non-profit, and I retort with something clever like "And how do you developers feed themselves".

Thanks. I agree with you about the technical analysis. But the question is: how much should one expect from a free, open source project? Same issues arise around time of Heartbleed. Lots of orgs who had never funded OpenSSL had a lot of negative things to say…

This blog from HAProxy is pretty brutal about OpenSSL performance and broader management of the OpenSSL project. But then I have to wonder how much funding HAproxy has contributed to OpenSSL over the years?

Thanks to our wonderful organization team and to the over 800 participants (including the affiliated events) that helped making Eurocrypt 2025 a success!

And now I'll go to sleep for a year or two...
