And not only do cars waste space on the road, but also they waste space when parked, taking room from sidewalks, bike lanes etc.

There are simple changes we can make to our cities that will have vast and ongoing positive effects on the lives of community members.

Community leaders with vision are pulling up concrete and replacing it with plant life.

Smart cities know that, as hot as they already are, they’re just going to keep getting hotter. Greening the city not only cools it down, it cleans the air, quiets the noise, improves mental health & happiness, saves public money, & more. Strand Aldwych, London. 2021 vs. 2025. Via @modacitylife.com

Every year, billions of vehicles worldwide shed an estimated 6 million tonnes of tire fragments. These tiny flakes of plastic, generated by normal driving, account for 28% of microplastics entering the environment globally.

Heavy vehicles eg SUVs/EVs especially.

Car tyres shed a quarter of all microplastics in the environment – urgent action is needed
Tiny flakes of plastic, generated by the wear and tear of normal driving, eventually accumulate in the soil, in rivers and lakes, and even in our food.

(sigo)

The 2025 Happy City Index is in, and @momentummag.bsky.social is pointing out that many of the world’s happiest cities are also some of the best places to ride a bike. Vancouver is #11, the highest ranked city in North America (cue the usual debates).

This is funny, just a couple of days ago I saw some in my hometown of Oviedo, northern Spain and had to google what there were.

As our cities get hotter and hotter, dark coloured buildings make no rational sense, even if you like that aesthetic (I do).

The same goes for dark coloured roofs.

And dark coloured streets and parking lots with dark coloured asphalt.

That really should be obvious.

Here’s a good question — why is riding a bicycle in the city turning into [actually, being deliberately turned into] a culture war?

Read this @momentummag.bsky.social article.

It doesn’t need to be this way. It’s just smarter transportation that makes urban movement easier for EVERYONE.
Why is Riding a Bicycle in the City Turning Into a Culture War
Here are some key reasons why a safety and efficiency issue is turning into a bicycle culture war.

So What Do We Know QC To Be Good For?
- Simulating quantum physics and chemistry
- Breaking current public-key encryption (RSA, DH, ECC)
- Eventually, modest (square-root) speedups from Grover
- We’ll have to get lucky for most other applications!
(The world has been systemically lied to about this)

One reason I think it’s important to continue to highlight the disparity on our streets is that most people just don’t see it.

Despite it being obvious to some, so many people don't have clarity because we have done such an incredible job of normalizing this imbalance.
