If a street done in isolation, with no changes to environment yes I'd agree. Area based zones followed by the required physical changes to the geometry of the street and yes, a level of enforcement are proven to work.

Ciaran Ferrie's piece in @irishexaminer.bsky.social nails the Govts capitulation on the Speed Limit Review. Identifying the urban roads that should be 50km (arterial) and 30km (everywhere else) is a relatively simple technical exercise with a small bit of guidance. Absolute cowardice.

Very good stuff from Sadiq Khan at the Labour Irish society event. He said there are two reasons he loves coming to Labour Conference.

“One is the reception at the Labour Party Irish Society reception.

“The second is to get away from all the Sharia Law in London”

If this intends to make it legally compulsory for every adult in Derry to carry something called a "Brit Card", then I'm willing to offer some high-paid consultancy on why this plan might be flawed.

In today’s @irishexaminer.bsky.social I present a more targeted approach to VAT on eating out.

An approach that would help Ireland’s Climate Action Plan, by reducing food imports and exports, reducing the carbon footprint of our food.

Use more locally produced food and join a new lower VAT rate.

On first listening, I'd mistakenly heard the chorus as "I'm gone all delusional"!!!!

Its needed and will be a welcome addition to the housing stock in Cork. More scope to do more with BusConnects, P+R, bridge over the Link to TvP and hopefully a future N-S Luas.

Nice piece by Paul Rouse in the @irishexaminer.bsky.social on the GAA as a positive force for integrating immigrants.

Certainly more night clubs open anyway. I do remember going to the GPO in Galway around 1998. They were giving curry and chips as part of the entry fee!

One of the top BE guys in Cork reckoned we didn't need the Luas given the stare-of-the-art bus service we have in Cork a couple of years back. Its beyond a joke waiting for no-shows and buses not aligned with AVL satellite info.

A lot of scare mongering about the proposed Greenway to Kinsale.

Unfortunately the noisy minority get the headlines

Thought this was a great contribution from Conn Murphy (farmer ) in Ballinhassig to the whole thing (southern star epaper)
as someone whose family has lived and worked on farmland in Ballinhassig for over five generations with our farm still thriving 2day I wholeheartedly support the development of the Cork to Kinsale Greenway This project offers a unique opportunity to celebrate our landscape connect communities and create a lasting legacy of sustainable recreation and tourism Our farm has weathered generations of change and we believe the Greenway can be part of a positive future one that respects the land while opening it up in thoughtful inclusive ways However it is deeply concerning that so many unsubstantiated claims have dominated public discourse around this initiative Misinformation and fearmongering have too often drowned out reasoned voices Those of us who support the Greenway have, t times, faced hostility and even threats simply for expressing our views at consultations and meetings. That is not the kind of community dialogue we should be fostering i myself have been a victim of said threats for speaking positively when I too have land along the proposed corridors over the past year I've had the privilege of visiting several Greenways across Ireland and witnessing firsthand the positive impact they've had, both locally and beyond I have spoken to landowners and homeowners that were once part of the movement against the Greenways in their own areas Many of these projects faced similar backlash during their planning stages yet the concerns were ultimately proven unfounded and are now welcomed with open arms
We must ensure that a perspectives are heard respectfully and that decisions are guided facts not fear The Greenway has the potential to enrich rural life support local businesses and provide safe scenic routes for families cyclists and walkers all while coexisting with active farming It also offers a vital connection to nature for those who may not otherwise have access Ultimately nobody going to lose their home and there are far more benefits to be gained than lost

Worth 3-5 mins of your time submitting a positive submission to this. A traffic-free greenway route between Cork City & Kinsale that gives a new lease of life to assets like the Chetwynd Viaduct, supports our economy & improves road safety is in the public interest corkkinsalegreenway.ie

From @colmoregan.bsky.social piece @irishexaminer.bsky.social today & a tribute to the quality of work undertaken by both LA's to date (with more to come). When taking some Dutch cycling experts there last year, they commented that parts will need to be widened to accommodate future demand

Paris has removed the paving from its city hall square and transformed it into an urban forest. Stunning! 🤩
