Ciaran Ferrie's piece in @irishexaminer.bsky.social nails the Govts capitulation on the Speed Limit Review. Identifying the urban roads that should be 50km (arterial) and 30km (everywhere else) is a relatively simple technical exercise with a small bit of guidance. Absolute cowardice.

It's not an exaggeration to say that high car usage and poor buses are an explicit policy choice. This is why the promises of a transport mecca post Galway ring road from agencies and parties with decades of neglecting public transport is such obvious BS.

Absolutely and there's been what 20-30 years? of paralysis over that ring road, there could easily have been interim solutions like park and rides and bus priority, increased frequency put in place in that period. By all accounts the city direct service is a joke in Galway, and nothing done
