So here she is, a silly and sometimes grumpy, resilient, Lady Gaga-adoring, nature-loving, earnest and sarcastic, smart-beyond-belief, desperate-for-affection teenager who wants to become a fire fighter. She is a girl who won a race and took on the ire of some of this country’s most powerful people.

Whatever your opinion is on trans girls in sports, I hope you'll spend some time with this story her life. I’m not a scientist, so I can’t settle the advantage question for certain, but I do believe that when adults boo a child, they should know more about the child they are booing.

A year and a half ago or so, I read that an entire stadium in Tacoma had booed a trans runner. I wanted to know more. She was 16, and she had stood on a podium in one of the country’s most liberal states and listened to 10,000 people boo her. What I learned surprised me:

For young transgender runner, racing wasn’t the hardest thing
Verónica García overcame poverty to become a high school track champion — twice. It made her famous for all the wrong reasons.

"And I never say no"

We need to have a serious talk about the way "AI companion" apps not only prey on the vulnerable, but are priming their users to ignore consent and to conflate love with control.

We need AI regulations across so many sectors, but this area is particularly horrifying.

MAGA may be trying to buy up -- or kill -- the culture. But it pushed back against the regime in all sorts of ways. I wrote about some of them for the @nytimes.com, including the epic return of @theonion.com ...

"Kavanaugh Stop" went from a skeet on here to Bluesky meme to crosspollinating over on X to Brett Kavanaugh's burner account seeing it there to a whiny defensive footnote about it in a decision by the Supreme Court of the United States.

Juice.
Check out the Kavanaugh FN 4; I think it's pretty clear that the Kavanaugh Stop thing has gotten to him:

The Arc de Triomphe was commissioned to honor Napoleon in 1806. By the time construction had really begun in earnest, Napoleon had suffered a disastrous military defeat and had been forced into exile.
Trump: We’re building an arc like the Arc de Triomphe. It will be like the one in Paris but it blows it away.
