This is completely disgusting. UPenn was afraid of losing funding, and they've decided humiliating Lia Thomas is a worthy price to pay to save themselves.

Lia Thomas did nothing wrong. She followed the rules and competed fairly and honorably. UPenn's leadership are cowards.

JUST IN: UPenn will strip a trans swimmer, Lia Thomas, of her records and ban trans athletes in women’s sports, caving to Trump admin demands.

What does a 40% NIH budget cut mean for funding chances (now ~15%)?

You might think “60% of the money left = 9% success”

❌ NOPE!!!

1-3%

because 80% of the budget is for existing grants

New science? Starved
Ongoing grants? Slashed 😢

Under its new leadership — who spread misinformation throughout the pandemic — the FDA announced it will limit all Covid vaccines to adults over 65 and those with certain medical conditions.

Covid continues to spread and cause harm. This an anti-science move that will kill more Americans.

I don’t think we have done a good job explaining to the American public the value of functioning universities. The billions of dollars of government funding that top universities get are actually vetted competitive contracts that allow faculty to do scientific research.

This whole thread is quite depressing. So sorry to those losing their jobs and thank you for your service.
Secretary Kennedy has said that making HHS more efficient means getting rid of administrative bloat.

But is it only administrators getting “streamlined”? Happy April Fools Day, except this is not remotely funny.

Second, these SROs are not dots on an org chart. They are real scientists, who have committed years of their lives to helping NIH review applications rigorously.

This requires a deep understanding of their scientific fields, few players, emerging ideas.

To toss them aside is deeply unwise.

I think it's worth repeating plainly that a federal judge halted Musk's federal funding freeze nearly two weeks ago but funds are still very much being frozen in violation of the court order.
