Amongst other things, this again highlights the core point about due process. It’s bad enough to be in a “show me your papers” situation, but your precious citizen/non-citizen, “legal”/“illegal” distinctions are meaningless when you can’t prove anything to authorities because they don’t give a shit.

Do you want churches to run public schools?

The Right is pushing new court cases to do just that.

My latest newsletter walks through it

Do you want churches to run public schools?
Right-wing efforts to create church-run public schools have ramped back up; it's all part of a long-term plan to force states to fund religious education.

always incredibly proud to support The Flytrap, please read this first person account of gender-based violence in women's prisons in the US!
First up, we decided to drop the paywall on @kwanetaharris.bsky.social's piece  because it's so powerful and urgent. Kwaneta writes about how the state is her abuser as an incarcerated woman. Read for free here:

Ain't We Women, Too?
For many incarcerated women, the state is their abuser, but the gender-based violence we experience behind bars goes ignored.

Such an important story: ProPublica went inside the immigrant detention center for families in Dilley, Texas. Children held there told us about the anguish of being ripped from their lives in the U.S. and the fear of what comes next.

Freedom 250, the Trump-run group the NYT reports is offering big donors special access, has totally supplanted America250, the congressional org that had been organizing 250th events, as we reported last week .So Trump is turning 250th into a party for himself, with taxpayer $, but no oversight.

Remember, this administration has repeatedly found ways not to spend appropriated funds. Just appropriating funds again, w/o power-of-the-purse enforcement language, doesn't stop Russ Vought, RFK, and Jay Bhattacharya from finding ways once again not to spend them. (2/2)

This piece is well worth your time. The only thing I'd add is: It remains to be seen how much of a win the "restoration of funding" in appropriations bills actually is. (1/2)
I wrote about the last several days.

(It's free on Substack, we will likely also get it on the website. Don't send me death threats. THANKS!)

It will take many books sure to be written to truly grasp the way this regime views children.

Some of the same ppl who did 👇🏻 also coveted and trafficked children.

Their sick involvement with Epstein should be met w/immediate removal from office. They don’t deserve the privilege of their roles.
From decimating USAID (hundreds of thousands have died, two-thirds of them children), to holding little children in crowded, unsanitary, traumatic conditions with inadequate food/water/enrichment/medical care, to invading and terrorizing schools,
