Chilling to get an email from the Covid inquiry team mentioning a post of mine on this platform. That, coupled with the screenshots I’ve seen shared by the Covid deniers, means I’m no longer safe here. I’ll probably lurk, for a bit.

Spotted this gem in a footnote on page 62 of Treasury's He Tirohanga Mokopuna

"Between 25% and 30% of everyone born in New Zealand is living overseas by age 30, and emigration rates are even higher among those with tertiary qualifications"

Radical idea here - how about stop shitting on our young?
Footnote from Treasury's 2025 He Tirohanga Mokopuna

"See Hughes, (2025a) and Hughes & Crichton (2025). Between 25% and 30% of everyone born in New Zealand is living overseas by age 30, and emigration rates are even higher among those with tertiary qualifications. Student loan holders living overseas commonly cease repayments, and these loans are sometimes written off as a result. Ministry of Education (2023)."

He Tirohanga Mokopuna is Treasury's long-term fiscal statement and it's full of woe about the funding of NZ Super. Not enough about maybe trying a LOT harder to keep people here.

That's right search 'Historians' in this Manatu Taonga Ministry for Culture and Heritage document and its returns no results because after 80+ years they're going! Historians matter but not to this government. #HistoryMatters #DontWantToPickYourGhostKumara www.mch.govt.nz/sites/defaul...

Never forget that Dolly Parton gave a million bucks for covid research at the *very start* of the pandemic—including money that helped fund the development of the Moderna vaccine.

CW: a reminder that for Babyloss Awareness Week (9 - 15 Oct) many buildings around the country will be lighting in pink, blue and purple. Sometimes they don’t use all the colours, or the way their lights work it can look like Blue & White (or other combinations associated with other causes).
A collage of images of buildings light up in pink, blue and purple. Text below the collage says: This year for Baby Loss Awareness Week (9th-15th October) we are again lighting up landmarks across Aotearoa mawhero (pink), kikorangi (blue) and poroporo (purple) to remember our precious babies. This is our 5th year doing this
Below is a list of confirmed landmarks so far for this year (sadly some of our previous landmarks are unable to be lit this year due to being out of order or previously booked).

Compare and contrast: A statement from an NZ First spokesman 6 months ago about the actions of a party member and supporter, and a statement today from that same party’s leader.

I listened to the most recent Empire pod as I made dinner tonight: William Dalrymple talking to Palestinian writer Selma Dabbagh. The poems read destroyed me, as they should anyone listening to, watching a genocide happen.

If you'd asked me which celebrity would posthumously unveil a list of people she wanted fired into the sun, I would not have guessed Jane Goodall

Dr. Jane Goodall filmed an interview with Netflix in March 2025 that she understood would only be released after her death.

As a mid-town worker, the sheer numbers of unhoused people has increased and over winter too. That’s the crux of any issue.

Southern California peeps: Looking for a spare laptop donation for a 45-year old Black woman comrade who is going back to school.

Laptop just needs to work reliably and run Microsoft Office and connect to her school's Google workspace stuff. Thank u!

Deeply satisfying spring clean:
Windows inside
Windows outside
Shutters scrubbed
Damp dust & polish of all furniture
Cushions & rugs aired
Mirrors & art dusted & cleaned
Doorknobs & light switches sanitised
The cat is very glad I’ve finished.

Obviously, this is loser shit, but I think AI has really cemented itself as the visual language of fascism. It's anti-human, flattened, uninteresting, and cheap. It's like looking at a Potemkin Village and thinking that's the same as architecture.
