Not only was knitting used by organized spies, but women in occupied areas were often able to overhear troop plans and movements just by sitting and knitting! Never underestimate a crafter!

I’m on my 13 book of 2025. It’s been nice escaping reality and diving into a different world. Been super into fantasy again. Trying to get my creative bug back, I feel it slowly returning. I need to get into audio books so I can work with my hands but I’m so used to just reading ‘em. #booksky #📖🪱

I’m reading this book and the author definitely has a favorite phrase of “i lifted my chin” it’s used so frequently i tried it in the mirror and tbh what does that even mean? Yes it can be used as defiance or pride or a lot of things but also is a kinda weird gesture to overuse? #booksky #fourthwing

I thought I’d share my first #mixedmedia #embroidery and #naturaldye piece I made. I used #marigold petals and my favorite #coreopsistinctoria flower. I gifted this to a friend as a house warming gift. #flowerpounding is so fun & cathartic, I can’t wait for spring/summer! #art #botanicalart
A 4” mixed media embroidery piece featuring 3 hammered marigold petals and a coreopsis tinctoria flower, hammered to extract their natural dye. The orange marigold petals have been embroidered to somewhat resemble a tulip flower, with one standing straight up, a short one leaning to the left, and the third reaching far to the left, behind the other flowers. The coreopsis flower is on the right of the hoop, with French knots in the center like pollen and golden threaded lines radiating out from the center. The flower hand stitched embroidery in whipped backstitch around the edge of the petals. The grasses underneath the flowers are straight stitches in green with golden French knots scattered throughout the grasses. This image shows the piece in full sun. The same embroidery piece, but in different lighting- taken inside and more shadowed, but the golden coreopsis flower shows up better, though the orange marigold petals look fainter in color.

3 different #flowerpounded leaf #art pieces of mine. Made with a few different species of #coreopsis leaves for todays #januARTy theme of #green. I then added my #handstitchedembroidery to the pieces including tiny little #birds (does this count for #birbfest2025?) a #cardinal and #easternbluebird
A 12” embroidery hoop with quarter next to it for scale. The hoop has a large green oak tree as the main focus of the piece, reminiscent of a tree of life art piece. The leaves are made from hammered coreopsis leaves, the grass is also made up of hammered coreopsis leaves. The tree leaves are round, the grass is made of long vertical leaves. The bark of the tree is made from Hand stitched embroidery, using a few different shades of brown to add depth to the bark. There is a black hole in the middle of the tree. The roots extend into the grass, there is also embroidery in the grass made of little lines for grass blades and French knots for little weed flowers. There are very small embroidered eastern bluebirds in the piece, one flying to the tree, and two perched within the tree. Most branches of the tree are poking out behind the green leaves, but two are below the start of the leaf line A mini 4” pounded leaf embroidery hoop. This was the first test of the idea, so the brown branches are thicker and not as hidden within the tree. The tree leaves are made from rounded coreopsis leaves, while the grass is made of long narrow coreopsis leaves. There is a little hand stitched blue bird sitting in the tree, and 5 flowers at the base of the tree in a lighter pink and a darker pink Another 4” mini tree enboirdery piece with hammered coreopsis leaves-same as the previous pieces with rounded leaves to make up the tree top, and long narrow leaves to make up the grass below and around the tree. This tree has the branches poking out from the leaves, as if hidden by the tree leaves. There is a red Cardinal bird perched in the tree, and yellow sunflowers in the grasses

Two pieces of mine that made me think of the #januarty prompt of #curve not only are they in #embroidery hoops that are round, but the pieces themselves have some curves within. Both made with #flowerpounded #coreopsis and then #handstitched embellishments added. One of these is still available!#art

Above the flower is a little hand stitched bumblebee An embroidery hoop with 3 hammered yellow coreopsis flowers, there is a curved vine around the right side of the hoop with leaves and little embroidered French knots, there is a similar small vine on the left side of the hoop. The yellow flowers are embroidered around with golden embroidery floss and French knots in the middle, where the center of the flower would be

Thankfully #pressedflowers are #flat which is todays #januarty theme. These pieces I made a couple years ago now with flowers from our #garden. I looove #pansy flowers so much and they preserve so well when dried. The #hydrangea flowers were gifted to me from a friend’s garden, so special. #art
