There is less than a month to go to HBEurope 2025 in Iceland, starting with an opening ceremony at the fantastic Harpa venue (www.harpa.is/en). We have fantastic plenaries, covering healthy & green buildings, the indoor microbiome, building physics & indoor moisture (www.hb2025iceland.org/keynotes)

Check out this brilliant video explainer from Bristol University which illustrates how (as well as high CO2 levels often indicating poor ventilation and higher COVID risk environment) high CO2 levels also increase the lifetime of the virus in the air.

For those who are not marine chemists, this is the easiest way to see how adding alkalinity to the ocean lowers pCO₂ without changing dissolved inorganic carbon and potentially allows the ocean to take up more atmospheric CO₂. 🌊

Our 6XL air purifier has a CADR of 290 cfm, uses two 3M Filtrete MPR2200 (MERV13) and runs very quiet at under 40dB.

💯Clean air delivery rate (CADR) is more important than HEPA rating! I have been buying portable air cleaners for the lab and home that are not HEPA-level but offer a high CADR per dollar spent and low noise.

Marwa Zaatari's comparison chart from 2021 is a good way to think about this.

Just to say, if you are 30, more than half of all human fossil fuel emissions have occurred in your lifetime #dataviz

Global fossil CO2 emissions by continent:
* Over half the emissions originate from Asia
* North America (16%) & Europe (13%), with only slow declines
* Middle East is 8%

Per-capita basis:
* North America & Oceania clearly the highest
* Middle East higher than Europe
* Asia just under global average

I often show my students this visualization of how atmospheric CO₂ travels around the globe. Our attitude toward burning fossil fuels would change significantly if we could actually see CO₂.

The planets orbit the Sun at different speeds, with the inner planets moving the fastest—they need to, to resist being pulled in by the Sun's gravity.

Here's a side-by-side comparison (race?) of their velocities!
