Just another sentimental feminist lefty English teacher.

Avid reader/listener/viewer/writer.

Equal parts enamoured and disillusioned by the state of things.
Words cannot express how heartbreaking this is 💔

I required a D&C after having both my girls for retained placenta.

Without this essential health care, I wouldn’t be here. Twice.

Not providing this service is absolute madness.
My dear friend’s niece, who in October developed sepsis when a Georgia hospital refused her a D&C after a miscarriage, will be taken off life support tomorrow.

I don’t know the names of the countless others who have suffered and will suffered because of anti-abortion laws.

But her name was Haley.

San Franciscan since 1980, regular user of public restrooms, probably shared them with more trans women than most people out there, also nothing to report. We're fine. Wrote about that four years ago. All still true. Damn this persecution. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

The idea that agreement upon the basic dignity and humanity of all people is an “echo chamber” is hollow in its reductionism. I’d say it’s much more akin to the foundational building block for a functional society.

I spent yesterday being called a fascist by an influx of men infiltrating a mum’s group on Facebook.

I said I call out (and at times censor) JK Rowling’s transphobic beliefs from my girls (who are 10 and 4) and my classes at school.

Popper’s paradox of tolerance reinforces my position perfectly.

Love this so much. As soon as it rebranded as X, I deleted it for purely aesthetic reasons 💅🏽
In the week since the U.S. presidential election, Elon Musk has used X, the social media platform he owns, to reiterate his support for President-elect Donald Trump. Some of X’s users have decided they want to post elsewhere. Among the largest beneficiaries of that desire is Bluesky. nyti.ms/48JtYAt

Despite everything that has happened to this point, at least I know that I am safe from this fate!
A very special election day bonus episode for the rushed, sloppy, irritated, and alive. There are two movie adaptations of Ira Levin's The Stepford Wives, and midcentury scholar @sarcher.bsky.social came by to talk about both of them—and why this story just keeps getting more relevant.

Whatever else it may have been, colonisation is a dreamscape in which the nation remains enmired. The last word in this powerful exhibition is given to Oodgeroo Noonuccal, in her poem ‘Municipal Gum’. Here we are suspended, another kind of specimen, an artefact of Enlightenment imagining.
