It is easy to feel discouraged.

But we want to thank the many public health professionals, like Dr. Deb Houry, who continue to fight. Sharing her powerful op-ed.

And a huge thank to all the current and former CDC career staff who work tirelessly to protect all people. 💚

I Left the CDC 100 Days Ago. My Worst Fears About the Agency Are Coming True
"Things have not improved," writes Dr. Debra Houry. "They have worsened. And Congress has still failed to act."

Watching the CDC go from an institution considered to be the leading knowledge on public health - the innovator and the place to go to for guidance - to what it is now - a sham and a farce actively harming public health. I cannot state how much this hurts my heart and enrages me at the same time.💔

What if we - just hear me out - did NOT change this?

Hep B vaccines at birth save newborn lives. Why would we want to interfere with that?

What is wrong with people???
Ahead of the ACIP meeting tomorrow where they’ll be considering removing the Hep B birth dose recommendation, here’s a good breakdown of why that’s a bad thing:

Can't believe I have to say this, but: Nursing IS a profession. By classifying it as "not professional," Trump is making it more expensive & difficult for students to study nursing. This adds to the affordability crisis & makes staffing shortages worse. @wsna.bsky.social www.wsna.org/news/2025/ws...
WSNA opposes excluding nursing from “professional degree” programs
Without access to sufficient loans, the impact on the nursing workforce, including the work of preparing new nurses to enter the workforce, can be severe.

DPH member Mary Canales, PhD, RN, has just published an *excellent* piece on the need for nurses to speak to truth to power in this moment.

I know there are a ton of nurses doing exactly that, and I thank you for that, but hey we can always use more!

You can read her paper here:
Revisiting Speaking Truth to Power: A Return to Its Roots | Defend Public Health
Defend Public Health member Mary Canales, PhD, RN shares her thoughts on the attacks on public health, and why it is time for medical professionals to speak truth to power.

I earned a degree, completed specialized training, and passed boards. Then I returned, did more advanced hands-on training, and passed another board. I also have to maintain continuing education and pay to keep both.

But somehow, they claim nursing isn’t a professional degree.

Make it make sense.

Some professions will always require people - healthcare, education, social services. The Education Department trying to reclassify them as something else in a strange attempt to make it harder for people to pay for degrees in these needed fields is just - bonkers. This is bad for all of us.
How y’all feeling about this? I’m f*cking irate.

We’re not professionals? RNs in particular for me…..who do you think monitors for changes/care in the hospital because your MD isn’t at bedside? WHO do you think THEY depend on?

(Ps this was in Project 2025)

Nursing is no longer counted as a 'professional degree' by Trump admin
The Department of Education has excluded nursing as a "professional degree" program as it implements various changes to student loans.

Medicare for All would save $450B a year.

Every dollar spent on food stamps generates $1.50-$1.80 in economic activity.

Each dollar going to low-wage workers adds $1.20 to the economy overall.

It’s not about what this country can or can’t afford.

It’s about priorities.

This will absolutely not help people at all. In case anyone was wondering.
Trump: "THE ONLY HEALTHCARE I'LL SUPPORT OR APPROVE IS SENDING MONEY DIRECTLY BACK TO THE PEOPLE W/ NOTHING GOING TO THE BIG, FAT, RICH INSURANCE COMPANIES, WHO HAVE RIPPED OFF AMERICA LONG ENOUGH. THE PEOPLE WILL BE ALLOWED TO NEGOTIATE & BUY THEIR OWN, MUCH BETTER, INSURANCE. POWER TO THE PEOPLE!"

This is absurd and plainly illegal. The courts should reject this fringe theory.

But the real news here is Trump will do anything to try to kill an agency that has returned more than $21 billion to scammed Americans, but he'll do nothing to lower costs for American families.

For the first time all year, Democrats were riding high and the regime was on the ropes.

If Senate leadership’s goal was to demobilize and depress rank-and-file Democrats, they could not have played their cards better.

This is why we’ve launched the largest primary program that we’ve ever run.
Democratic leaders have failed us again. It's time to get new leaders.
After yet another capitulation by Chuck Schumer and Senate Democrats, it's clear we need new leadership capable of mounting a serious opposition to Trump's authoritarian regime. We're launching our la...
