Instead of crapping on YouTubers who want to get attention & make people annoyed by calling titles like Escaflowne or Tenchi Muyo! "obscure" or "forgotten", I say visit this here blog, which for ~15 years has focused on stuff that ACTUALLY IS "obscure" & "forgotten"!

Banner for The Land of Obscusion, which has been the self-proclaimed "Home of the Obscure & Forgotten" "For Over 10 Years!".

After this year I might update it to "For Over 15 Years!".

Their opinion is their opinion, whatever, but they’re re-writing history here. TRON was Disney’s highest-grossing live action film in 5 years, a decent hit that made a lot from merchandise and arcades. Home video was also very successful for TRON, and Legacy didn’t flop, it made $400 million.

Pretty confused by how TRON became a big-budget movie franchise. Was it a bit hit when it came out? No. Did it become a big hit on video/TV? Also no. Do people have fond nostalgic memories of it? Eh kinda but not really. Was it secretly great and critically acclaimed? No again

#Ys vs Trails in the Sky: Alternative Saga releases today in the west from @NihonFalcom and @refintg. Who's jumping in?

Available on #PS4 #PS5 #NintendoSwitch #Steam

Similar to how Ys Seven played on PC, I imagine, since it's based on that game's engine & gameplay. In other words, "Don't even try to play it with a keyboard".

With the power of the serial port on the iphone notch, you can connect and securely screw a serial cable to swing your iphone around like a whip. It's both an improvised weapon and a trendy and fashionable way to carry your iphone.
a picture of bridget from guilty gear throwing her yoyo but i replaced the yoyo with a poorly photoshoped iphone with a serial port connected to the notch area. bridget is holding the other end of the cable

It's personally one of my most wanted titles from TMS to see release in English. I saw the first episode a number of years ago & enjoyed it, and the OP theme is all sorts of awesome.

@hidive.com is on Bluesky, but here's a screencap from their Twitter account where they state what should feel obvious when it comes to the idea of using AI for anime translation & timing... but in today's world it's unfortunately not so obvious.

Good on Hidive, regardless.

Karakuri Zoushi Ayatsuri Sakon
1999-2000 (26 eps)

Mystery series based on a short-lived Jump manga drawn by Takeshi Obata, but once Hikaru no Go became a smash hit TMS put this into production ASAP to take advantage of Obata's newfound celebrity.

I saw the first case long ago & remember liking it.

Knight Hunters (Weiß Kreuz)
1998 (25 eps)

Anime fans of a certain vintage will know of this vanity project headed up by the venerable Takehito Koyasu about flower shop workers who work as assassins by night.

Media Blasters released this first season in the 00s, but it's been stuck in legal limbo.

Red Baron
1994-1995 (49 eps)

A complete reimagining of the 70s tokusatsu series, this coincidentally aired in the same exact time slot as G Gundam (but on a different day), and even had a similar tournament-focused storyline. The toys came later but were so popular that the anime got more episodes.

Look, if we're going to keep getting isekai manga licensed for English release then at least give me the ones that are actually somewhat different, or at least have some actual fun (or just poke fun) at the concept.

Also, all the stuff I suggested are only 2 or 3 volumes long, each.
landofobscusion.bsky.social
I also went with Isekai Sankan-Ou/Triple Crown King in Another World, which sees a pro baseball player get transported to a fantasy world where he fights evil using the power of baseball!

If I had a 4th slot then I probably would have gone with Dokacook Quest, which sees a cook get isekai-ed.
Cover to Isekai Sankan-Ou, showing the main character read with his bat in another world. Cover to DokaQue: Isekai Dokacook Quest, showing the titular Dokacook with a female knight.

For the new Seven Seas monthly reader survey that just went live I went "If isekai is what gets licensed then I'll give you nothing but isekai!" when it came to the manga licensing suggestions

The first two were Sword Breaker & Even in Another World, Our Protagonist is Never Afraid of Being Him!!!
landofobscusion.bsky.social
Here's a neat little tidbit I just found out about a mangaka returning to an old, failed manga:

At the end of Haruto Umezawa's recent isekai manga Even in Another World, Our Protagonist is Never Afraid of Being Him!!! it's revealed to be a sequel to Umezawa's failed Jump manga Sword Breaker. Neat!
Cover of Volume 1 for Even in Another World, Our Protagonist is Never Afraid of Being Him!!!, with main character Tetsumau Sakatani. Cover for Volume 1 of Sword Breaker, with the main character Mikoto front & center, with a diamond-shaped mark on his forehead. Tetsumau Sakatani revealing that he has the same diamond-shaped mark on his forehead as Mikoto, confirming that he's indeed the reincarnation of Mikoto that was shown as a baby as the end of Sword Breaker.

The Dog of Flanders: My Patrasche
1992-1993 (26 eps)

An adaptation of Maria Louise Ramé's iconic 1872 novel, which is best known to anime fans via its World Masterpiece Theater adaptation from 1975. TMS' adaptation actually had its last two episodes released straight-to-video, due to low ratings.

Kinkyu Hasshin Saver Kids
1991-1992 (50 eps)

Another non-Lupin creation of Monkey Punch's, this time about a trio of young brothers who work together to protect the world from Dr. Bug & his robot army.

Honestly, I'm slightly curious how a kids show by way of Monkey Punch kind of works out.

The Twins at St. Claire's
1991 (26 eps)

TMS certainly likes its novel adaptations, with this one being based on Enid Blyton's series about mischievous twin girls who are sent to a boarding school that they initially hate but come to eventually love.

It won't be the last novel adaptation, either!
