It’s not just that they don’t have to turn off SNAP benefits — they’re not legally allowed to. They legally must use the contingency fund.

The admin is pretending they can’t use it even though their own guidance from a month ago (that they’ve since deleted) contradicts that.
Yes, they’re using the shutdown to turn off SNAP benefits.

No, they don’t have to.

Three key points:
1) The admin has been planning mass firings to begin in October since February
2) The work necessary to carry out mass firings is illegal during a shutdown, violating the Antideficiency Act, which carries a criminal penalty
3) This harms America, ridding us of talent and expertise

Could not be more clear the president wishes he had unilateral power to imprison people, like in an absolute monarchy

He doesn’t so instead he’s forcing the govt to bring charges against his enemies because he wants vengeance

Nakedly corrupt, the sort of thing that necessitates removal from office

I give shit to Jeffries (and Schumer) when they suck, so it’s also important to recognize when they’re doing it right.

This is doing it right. More of this, indeed. *Everyone* involved in the corruption of this administration MUST face consequences for their actions.
This is good, from Hakeem Jeffries. More of this please, in every conceivable forum:

"Sycophants who aid and abet the President’s vengeful schemes will not be able to hide from the serious legal consequences of their behavior. They will be held accountable."

It really can't be said enough: the goal of the "anti-woke" movement was always to destroy social norms against bigotry. And it worked. And there's a whole lot of purportedly "left" thinkers & commentators who helped it -- indeed, it couldn't have been done without them.

They should feel bad.

My gosh. After the US bombed multiple boats in the middle of the ocean, murdering people on grounds that they were allegedly "carrying drugs," the US Attorney General says "Just like we did with cartels, we're going to take the same approach, President Trump, with Antifa."

How can you make a government funding deal when Trump is already illegally not following the current deal he signed into law and saying as loudly as possible he won't follow the next deal?

Unless a deal prevents that, what funding have you actually secured in some deal?

I was lucky enough to attend a Planned Parenthood event last night and folks, it is *critically* important we keep the organization afloat.

Federal money *never* went towards abortions, it helped fund cancer screenings, STI detection, reproductive health, and so much more.

PP is a vital resource.
New: Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast will shutter its two Louisiana clinics and exit the state.

The clinics have never provided abortions—the state wouldn't grant licenses—and affiliate's Texas clinics haven't offered abortion since 2022, so "defund" bill doesn't affect PPGC. @nolanews.bsky.social

"We are asking the Department of War to deploy to our cities" should be a statement that ends any Governor's political career.

We need to let the world know this is happening – and that we won’t stand for it.

Trump has made no comment. The White House has found the time to post a video of the arrest of that guy who threw a sandwich at a cop, but nothing about a cop killed defending the government's own employees.

Marjorie Taylor Greene, whose district includes parts of Atlanta, has also said nothing.

There’s an old saying in sales: “If you’re not calling your customers, your competitors probably are”

Same for politics: If you’re not calling, writing, emailing them regularly, you can bet that MAGA voters are, and lobbyists certainly are.

Writing and Calling Congress is important. When writing, try to add a personal story that relates, like health care issues, child care, safety of our country, etc. keep it civil, even if the senator/rep is, well, a [insert appropriate term here]. When calling keep it simple - one or two things. 🧵👇
