1/4. Ukraine has proposed a ceasefire without conditions. Russia will almost certainly reject this and try to dictate to Witkoff that the US help Russia achieve colonial control of Ukraine, something that Russia could never achieve on its own.

In 2022-23 Macron was somewhat of the village idiot of Europe. He would say something outrageous about Ukraine/Russia every couple months and make Europe-wide headlines.

But he has learned and adapted. And now I’m really liking this new and inclusive French leadership offer.
For all the ways he has shot himself in the foot domestically, Macron deserves credit for being the most consistent (and often, only) European leader on strategic autonomy from 2017 onwards
