A Red-Shouldered Hawk flies off in search of yet more food for their 3 chicks. Chatham County, North Carolina. The hawk is shades of red, with some black on the wings and flecks of white scattered throughout. The beak is yellow, tipped with black. The hawk has just launched off the nest. Its wings are spread, with motion blur visible out at the tips, and its tail is fanned out.

A sweet desert-scape,
to hopefully lighten the mind,
as life unfolds during one’s day…

This Cottontail was only a few months old,
& wisely chose a nice shady area, by wild Zinnia flowers,
to while away hot summer afternoons.

Really enjoy how this young rabbit is resting: front paws straight out, and eyes peacefully closed. The little one stayed there all afternoon, and re-utilized this small area for several hot afternoons… The wild Zinnia flowers are rather tiny yet abundant – white with cinnamon-color centers, amidst deep green foliage… Taken a few years ago.

A touch of exotica and a splash of colour here in Shetland - fine drake Mandarin appeared briefly at Boddam yesterday and was relocated at Brow Marsh this morning where it gave lovely views. There are <45 Shetland records of this introduced species and it's now pretty much annual here in spring.
