Dear Augusten,

Your books have been an inspiration to me for 20 years. I’m currently going for my MFA in creative writing and rereading them in preparation for my upcoming nonfiction writing class next month. Thank you for all you do.

Take care of your health, physically and mentally. Everyone thinks they’re immortal in their teens and 20s, but the truth is, they’re not. Go to therapy, go to the doctor and get that weird mole you’re worried about checked out. Build a foundation for your future self.

You don't turn into a whole new person when you turn thirty. You're still all the people you were before. You don't have to give up fanfic or sell your toy collection or whatever else you think will make you more "adult." Time makes you adult. You need to make you happy.

When I was 25 I was sad I had not written The Great American Novel. At 55, I realize there's no Great American Novel, there are merely the stories I'm the best person to tell. Don't worry about how others see greatness. Work on being the best version of who you are and what you can do in the world.

I read the book as a teenager after seeing the musical. Really weirded me out. To this day, I still haven’t been able to read any of the other books in the series (called The Wicked Years, I think).
Still haven’t seen Wicked, but it does warm my heart to know that there is now an entire other generation that is going to attempt to read, and inevitably decide not to finish, the book it’s based on

Late 90s Game Boy/Game Boy Color. Pokémon Red Version was what originally made me fall in love with video games.

Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages/Seasons is a close second.
With video games, when were "the good old days" for YOU?

When were the times when you felt the absolute coziest in your gaming adventures? I want to know what that era is for you and what it felt like!
