It's only called purity when called out on not having any morality & consistency, hence the "purity", cast derisively as if it's a bad thing.

I hate to say it but the majority of the country is not going to die on the hill of trans rights. We can’t protect ANY groups if we can’t win a national election, so purity tests only serve to make specific groups feel triumphant. That’s not “erasing” them; it’s long-horizon strategy.

Yes, the lack of education and critical thinking skills are exploited. Christianity is based around obedience, with God being the ultimate authority and the asshole in the pulpit as an authoritative representative of that imaginary friend known as "God".

It's particularly insidious. They know the language and bastardize it in service to capitalists, lying and disinforming the populace, because they both know the education standards in this country is shit and citizens won't be knowledgeable enough to dispute or push back.
