It's still bad! But it's average "leadership doesn't want to listen to the userbase" bad and not "one guy basically turned one of the internet's main forums for everything from local extreme weather warnings to celebrity culture, which will never exist again, into a nazi bar"

For as much as it sucks when the admins turn out to suck, this is not a repeat of twitter. And I only say that because it's almost impossible to overstate the disaster that was Musk's twitter. It has almost no precedent. This is like when everyone got mad at spez for fucking up the API. Ordinary.

An actual hot take: Too many authors are afraid of editors watering down their voice or whatever and not afraid enough of editors letting you put any old slop on the page.

I don't like him personally, but David Simon on AI is the final word on the subject.

SCOOP: Last year, Ubisoft cancelled an Assassin's Creed game set during Reconstruction. Was to feature a Black Assassin who, among other things, fought the rise of the Klan

Sources: Leadership nixed it over concerns re: U.S. political climate, backlash to Yasuke

There's no T in the word "mountain."

We're going to the mou'ns

What’s the word where you’re from that, when pronounced exactly as it looks, identifies a tourist immediately?

I think both things were true: Square's sales expectations were destructively outlandish, and the title did this game no favors.

I've always said "IV-uh-liss"

Apparently the voice acting in the remaster pronounces it "EE - va - lease"

Inspired by a lot of people discovering they've been saying "Ivalice" wrong from the FFT remaster and I was like, friends, if I've been saying something a certain way for 20 years, it's too late. You missed your chance to correct me. My way is correct now, in my universe.

Sometimes the *technically* correct thing can be so spiritually wrong that it doesn't matter. For example, pronouncing Tidus as "TEE-dus." He is a water guy. Like the tides. So he is Tide-us. There is no way you will ever convince me to say it differently. I would choose death instead.

I spent the last week combing through reports and speaking with analysts about where EA's studios and most well-known franchises will likely fit under its new owners - and how that massive debt will potentially influence the way EA handles them

It was originally going to be a follow-up to True Crime: Streets of LA before Activision canceled it, and when Square Enix got the rights they didn't have access to that name.

Saw that Sleeping Dogs (which is great and you should play it) is $3 on Steam and it's one of the rare cases where I think I would have sided with the marketing people. I'm convinced it undersold because they picked a clever/cute title instead of one that said anything about what kind of game it is.

tl;dr: Bluesky began with genuine promise: a new social media platform where users could feel safer, but inconsistent moderation quickly eroded trust.

When systemically marginalized users pushed back, Bluesky’s leadership minimized concerns and began to target them for bans.

Two of my biggest reviews of the year showing up in my inbox on the same day. I was prepared for this but it is going to be a marathon. Hopefully a fun one at least.
