Ghost of Yotei: "Next objective, search for the yaoi master"

*Listens to the wind*

"... wait that's *yari* master, sorry"
fionnthebrave.bsky.social
Oh I meant like that stream of prequel/explainer movies for a while, like Malificent, that kind of thing. The original story is enough!
fionnthebrave.bsky.social
Yeah the phrasing of Sandfall's announcement ("a bit of whee and woo") makes it sound like they might have an Esquie-related substory in mind. Or maybe it was just meant for fun, which is my hope
fionnthebrave.bsky.social
Fine, I'll add to the discourse.

Esquie Expedition 33 doesn't need his own story. Not everything needs explaining, and it's good to leave successful things alone sometimes

It's not a new trick for this genre; Modern Warfare 2's big gimmick was basically 'Red Dawn.' But playing soldier in a burning Brooklyn makes Battlefield depressing, especially at a time when the president is sending armed forces to democratic cities.

'Battlefield 6' is a lean, mean military machine that feels refreshingly simpler than 'Call of Duty' has become

the real secret to getting high traffic indie game coverage is having an interesting game that people would actually want to read about
maximjdev.bsky.social
Pretty much nobody cared about The Hayseed Knight's press releases "this whatever game is coming out" news in sites that would even give me the time of day, but it only took @dashiellwood.com finding a good angle to tell the story for the article to go viral everywhere!! There's an audience!!

i wish games editorial could freely share their traffic data so that indies could understand just how little traffic their launch news after 7 years of dev does compared to like. Widely Anticipated AAA Game Posts Trailer Showing New Character's Face For 3 Total Seconds

repost this if an editor has ever saved you from yourself

An actual hot take: Too many authors are afraid of editors watering down their voice or whatever and not afraid enough of editors letting you put any old slop on the page.

SCOOP: Last year, Ubisoft cancelled an Assassin's Creed game set during Reconstruction. Was to feature a Black Assassin who, among other things, fought the rise of the Klan

Sources: Leadership nixed it over concerns re: U.S. political climate, backlash to Yasuke

I spent the last week combing through reports and speaking with analysts about where EA's studios and most well-known franchises will likely fit under its new owners - and how that massive debt will potentially influence the way EA handles them

I played a bunch of Yakuza Kiwami 3 at TGS.

RGG obviously has an impressive pipeline for producing high-quality games quickly... HOWEVER, while the new combat looks great and the Dragon Engine has never looked better, I am not sold on several creative choices.

Yakuza Kiwami 3 And Dark Ties is RGG operating like a well-oiled machine
Ryu Ga Gotoku's remake of Like A Dragon's black sheep is slick and polished, but might have lost some of the game's charm.

Happy anniversary, and congrats to you both!!!
fionnthebrave.bsky.social
Yeah the latter definitely makes sense. The style's even a bit Illumination but you'd think if they *were* involved, it'd be mentioned or a logo would show up

The name and the pacifier make me think it's either some Sims-like family management game (the player is moving the pacifier) OR some horrendously sad animated short about a deceased relative staying close to the family from The Beyond (a ghost is moving the pacifier)

People ran wild with it to the point where Blizzard had to run a brief video explaining the rationale, but everyone was just like well this was in an interview and wasn't NDA'd, so *shrug*

More of that please

Have encountered this a few times myself this year. But I have to shout out Triple Point and Blizzard PR for not being weird over me publishing their lead Overwatch artist saying they wanted heroes to be "aspirational" from a physical perspective, hence fewer "oddball characters" recently

Excellent piece! Pretty much my thoughts as well. I've enjoyed First Chapter well enough, but the script actively irritates me
