Texas National Guard troops arriving in Chicago (via ABC News)

Remember: These are not MAGA stormtroopers. These are everyday teachers and accountants who signed up to serve their country with their spare time. They're being used as political pawns by venal, un-American, draft-dodging president

I didn't either until I showed up to take the test and heard other takers talking about it -- my stomach fell into my feet. Great way to start the test!

I love living in a city full of immigrants and tons and tons of people who are not at all like me and not like each other. It makes us all better and it makes our city better. I know I’m preaching to the choir by saying this on the lib app but I sometimes just get so overwhelmed by how special it is

Same, and when I was a summer associate, a fellow SA from NYU law told me that she had "never heard of anyone who got a score so low" when I told her mine (don't shoot me! she asked!) - she also said he didn't know anyone else who had not taken a prep course.

My take on TLOASG: this is a GenX / GenX identifying album. The self-deprecating humor, the unabashed and intentional cringiness, the joy, the confidence, the LOL jokes. Absolutely perfect.

How do you Swifties feel about Taylor Swift's new album? Josh Barro and Ross Douthat drop by to explain.

I love this and would read every word of a deeper dive.

As a certified Old who is probably way too online, I just wish more young people would adopt the attitude of "things that bring people joy* are Good, even if they don't bring me joy."

*Sadly necessary caveat in These Times: things that don't hurt other people)

The fact that this rational, anodyne post was almost shocking to me in a "wow, someone is actually being normal about this" way is kind of sad. (But thanks to Niko for being normal about this!)

I think Taylor Swift is fun and the new record is pretty good so far. She has never fully been my thing, but I am always happy that the people who lover her get a new thing to love. It is very funny to me that every time she puts a new record out we get a new round of "Is Mastercard my friend?"

Gas stations should advertise in big letters if their pumps have the little thing that makes it so you don't have to keep your hand on it. I would always turn in at the sign that says OUR PUMPS HAVE THE LITTLE THING.

This article manages to name her husband before it names… her.
Article reads:
Woman named as Archbishop of Canterbury in historic first

The 63-year-old archbishop-designate is married to Eamonn Mullally, with whom she has two children. Originally from Woking in Surrey, she was the UK's chief nursing officer from 1999 to 2004.

When we talk about failures of solidarity, this is what we mean. This creator acknowledges that she and her husband have good corporate jobs AND ALSO that in order to keep them they need to augment full time daycare with grandparent help. Now here she is framing this as “don’t feel guilty

Do you ever think about the fact that Wikipedia is the last good major website on the internet? You aren't bombarded with ads. It doesn't try to push video on you, and it doesn't redirect you to a scam site.

Well we asked an expert and then we asked other experts in that field to review the first expert's work.

Listen, nobody has rolled their eyes harder at Gen X garden hose nostalgia, but there is something seriously weird about those AI slop Walmart vids. Millennials, I want better for you

There was even a satirical movie made about it in 1994 - PCU with Jeremy Piven and Jessica Walter (RIP goddess).

The real generational divide is people who refuse to watch a video if it could be an article versus people who refuse to read an article if it could be a video

Sometimes our 4yo & 6yo forget we’re in the car with them, so we just drive around & listen to them tell each other everything that’s happening at their schools.

Our kids go to two different schools. Of the next 23 workdays, at least one of the schools is closed on five (almost a quarter) of those days. In case anyone was still wondering whether parents are aware that school isn’t childcare 😃
