If the "cartel" clubs really wanted to separate themselves from the rest of the English pyramid, maybe all they'd have to do is ban gambling sponsors, which would be much easier than forming a super league.
Diagram of premier league kit sponsors by club for 25/26, highlighting that 11 of 20 clubs have gambling sponsors.

2019... my best year following the reds, and then it got complicated.

I made it to Anfield for a Sadio backheel, but soon after, I lost my one remaining grandparent, and later that year my first dog passed. By December the reds were broken, but I met my future life partner.

2020 didn't start well.

There is no acceptable excuse for zip-tying children! None.

This shouldn’t even have to be said.

Slot has noticed a similarity between our struggles now and the latter portion of last season. Hmmm... Did anything change when we stopped starting Darwin? I say, yes.

Good chatting! I'm jumping on a flight. ttyl 🍻 up the reds!

And how can you review reds but not yellows? I think they should have started only with calls when play has stopped or that they can automate.

Long may it continue at Anfield

Erling Haaland has now scored at 22 of the 23 stadiums he's played at in the Premier League, the highest ratio of any player to appear at more than one ground in the competition’s history.

The only ground he has failed to score at so far is Anfield...
lfcgarrett.bsky.social
I can understand that. I think VAR's implementation was a disaster in large part because they decided to start with offside, creating the bigger problem of whether or not to stop play. It's improving with semi-automated, but they should have started elsewhere, like is it a goal kick or corner?

Anthony Taylor is the best referee the PGMOL has to offer, but he drops a stinker of a performance now and then, and Stamford Bridge this weekend was that.

He did well enough for the first half hour, but things started to unravel until he was dropping absolute clangers one after another.
lfcgarrett.bsky.social
I love this kind of comparison because it unreasonably encourages me, as if the exact same thing is likely to happen again, but even with a more reasonable perspective, it's still reason enough to tamp down on some of the current negativity.

The last time Liverpool won the UCL

We won our first 7 games

Then went 3 without a win.

In that stretch, we won 3-2, lost 0-1 in the UCL, just like this season

And lost 2-1 to Chelsea.

Our 11th game was vs a Manchester side, next up is Man Utd.
lfcgarrett.bsky.social
Yeah, tbf, you were clear about that. I think the number of goals is about right, and I think defenders have sufficient disadvantages already.
lfcgarrett.bsky.social
Well, this brings me back to my original point. If you want more goals, fine, but don't pretend it will make the offside calls any less prone to marginal calls.

Men, are they too emotional for football
tayvincent6.bsky.social
Based on the coaches needing to be kept separate after the final whistle, I'm gonna guess that postgame press conferences will be fun today
lfcgarrett.bsky.social
Giving the attackers the leeway in order to solve the marginal calls is exactly what my original post was speaking against. The suggested solution does nothing to solve the problem and would massively change the way the game is played.
lfcgarrett.bsky.social
So you think the rules should favour the attacker more than they currently do? I don't agree, but I understand the desire to give the attackers an edge.
lfcgarrett.bsky.social
I like the "any playable part of the body" aspect tbh
lfcgarrett.bsky.social
It would not solve the "off by a toenail" issue even slightly, which many have erroneously said it would. It would make more goals happen. If that's what everyone wants, then fine, but don't pretend it makes the offside rule even slightly easier to officiate accurately.
lfcgarrett.bsky.social
I've always been against the proposed offside rule where the attacker has to be entirely behind the defender for it to count as offside. I think it's foolish in many ways, not least of which is that it would disproportionately favour teams that set up in a low block and play negatively.

Even when he wasn't on the pitch, it was obvious Florian Wirtz, one of the dozen leading chance creators in the PL, was the problem with Liverpool's attack. By not putting that spinning backheel on the goalline for Salah, he's only made that more clear.

This year was going to be tough. We knew this. The loss of Diogo was bound to impact player far into the season.

The new players are also coming into that environment. It’s not as easy as some teambuilding and training.

It’s going to take time… give them some grace and love.
