I get so frustrated with the fact that study after study shows that having a strong social safety net for everyone (UBI, healthcare, modest housing, etc.) costs less than every single one of our current thoroughly broken for-profit systems.

This thread makes a point I find myself coming to often these days.
It's hard to make this point in a way that doesn't sound like a threat, but it's just a fact that for centuries the wealthy in America worried that the mob would come get them and did all they could to avoid that fate.

lol what the wealthy today don't seem to understand is part of staying wealthy in society is not pissing off the masses.

That is a good plan
One reason that Dems need to be publicly saying "we will abolish ICE and prosecute every single one of them who used excessive force, mistreated detainees or detained an unaccompanied minor/US citizen/person with ongoing legal proceedings" is that saying so will deter abuses right now.
