And one of my personal heroes. A primatologist and a prime example of how to human. RIP, Dr. Jane Goodall.

Thanks for living up so supremely to your surname. What an inspiration. I'm glad I've lived when you were alive. Such a loss to our planet. Our hearts with her loved ones tonight. 🌍🐒🌏🦍🌎
(Quote and image credit: Jane Goodall Institute) Image of world renowned primatologist and humanitarian, Dr. Jane Goodall, sitting in the shade of trees wearing a green shirt and gazing upwards. The text for the quote by her says: "Somehow we must keep hope alive - a hope that we can find a way to educate all, alleviate poverty, assuage anger, and live in harmony with the environment, with animals, and with each other." RIP to my queen who died today at 91 years of age. October 1, 2025.

hey @nytimes.com: there is no counterpoint here. There are no credible legal experts who would EVER say that the US military has any right or authority to blow civilian craft out of the Caribbean and kill their crews from afar without any provocation. There is no other side to this question.
"Some legal experts have called it a crime to summarily kill civilians not directly taking part in hostilities, even if they are believed to be smuggling drugs."
Thank you for sharing this! A great assessment - for me it started slowly but builds to a damning indictment. Worth reading for all, especially my open-minded friends and colleagues…

YES! THIS on GenAI!

A fourth boat bombed in international waters. Total death toll now 19

What I dont get is, if these boats are "carrying fentanyl" as Trump says (they absolutely arent. Even the DEA says VZ doesnt produce fentanyl), then why not seize one and show us?

Yes, I don't think that'll work, because the oligarchs leading the worst political initiatives have finances that exist outside the normal economy and even outside the economy of the 1%. Boycotts won't work as well when they WANT to destroy everything. Building new things is a better strategy now.

A fantastic new piece by @sarahkendzior.bsky.social I am a retired academic - while I personally loved my higher ed / science career, and admired its supposed ideals, even at the time it fell far short. And now there is almost nothing left of the opportunity and the idealism.
That’s despite fossil fuels getting nine times as much government consumption subsidies as renewables. (Global fossil fuel subsidies amounted to $620 billion in 2023, compared to $70 billion for renewables, according to the United Nations.)"
"Renewables—solar, wind, hydro, bioenergy and geothermal—have become astonishingly cheap in the last few years, and batteries to store renewable energy are getting amazing. Today, solar is 41 percent cheaper than fossil fuels, and offshore wind is 53 percent cheaper...
I'm tardy in acknowledging this content from Emily Atkin @emorwee.bsky.social in the newsletter "Heated" - but will be sharing this with my county government officials to remind them why I and others are pushing for fleet electrification, more sustainability efforts for county operations, etc.

It is beyond wild to me that there is zero coverage of "Workers over Billionaires" rallies anywhere on The New York Times or The Washington Post right now.

This is a colossal failure in journalism. Mainstream media can't just pretend that hundreds of thousands of protesters don't exist
