This is terrible. As a weather spotter for 20 years and daily reader of the noaa technical discussion, I’ve gotten to know a few of Bay Area NWS staff, this is just heartbreaking and unfortunately also undermines public safety. #CAwx
ICYMI: Bay Area National Weather Service office hit by DOGE layoffs

The staffing cuts may limit the office’s ability to perform duties such as answering public and media phone calls during adverse weather, said a local steward for the NWS employees org who spoke to the Chronicle on personal time.
NEW: Thursday’s massive National Weather Service layoffs included three employees at the Monterey office, which provides weather forecasts for nearly all of the Bay Area. One meteorologist, an administrative support assistant and a facilities technician were all fired with less than a day notice.

I think the most wrong I have ever been as a political scientist was when I said in a public forum in 2020 that there would not be political violence in the US (Jan 6 was 2 mos later).

Tonight’s purges are a clear precursor to more future such violence. This is textbook authoritarian abuse stuff.
