Yes! This thread was inspired by a happy hour at Life Science Washington Institute! www.lswinstitute.org They're well connected with Life Science Washington on issues like this which strongly advocate/lobby for life science small businesses in the state

(SBIR renewal not new news, just a continued disappointment/struggle: www.forbes.com/sites/rhettb...)
Without Congressional Reauthorization, SBIR And STTR Program At Risk
If the continuing resolution does not pass, the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs will be in jeopardy.

Top of mind struggle for everyone is funding, whether that's venture capital investment, pharma/hospital partnerships, non-dilutive grants, etc.

Also a general expression of "rich get richer" scenario, where a handful of companies receive the bulk of the funding. Rather than high quantity of small checks, a low quantity of big checks. (Personal note: I don't think this is specific to Seattle, I think this is true broadly)

No worries, the drying samples were different from the ones I was trying to analyze on the LCMS! We inject from plates on the auto sampler so we chucked it back in the fridge until we can get the spare Evosep hooked up

Also my first instinct was to write "a couple years ago" but then I realized it's >10 years ago 😔😔😔

As @maccoss.bsky.social always says, "everything old is new again" -- this reminds me of like 2012/2013 when we were all adding TFA to our solvents and hydrogen to our FAIMS gases.

Can't speak to that. I'm more analytical chemist than medicinal chemist! I don't think newcos like Onepot can fully solve the custom synthesis bottleneck, but it's a good intermediate between stock libraries and fully custom molecules for biotechs
November 30, 2025 at 12:54 AM
Yeah maybe we're just a smaller contract? Or our routes are more complicated? Off the shelf stuff is of course quick but the custom stuff is 2-3 months.

Fwiw chemistry is often called the bottleneck for platform biotech co's because the main affordable places to get chemistry done are WuXi and Enamine, and it takes 2-3 months to get compounds back from them. 2-3 month is a looong wait in startup time. Other places are more/too expensive.

At least my peptides dried down nicely
November 29, 2025 at 10:53 PM
Man I was struggling so hard with getting to Port 4 back there to make sure it was tightened, I didn't realize I could remove the black foam!! That might've helped
November 29, 2025 at 10:48 PM
Well, I'm ordering more lines, but wow this was ... not what I was prepared for! Although I might be able to frit and pack my own traps, and score/trim silica, and crimp my own fittings, it looks like we're at an impasse until more lines get delivered.
November 29, 2025 at 10:47 PM
Whoa what! I'll have to check that once we get more lines in to hook the trap back up...
November 29, 2025 at 10:44 PM
That is crazy nice of you, thanks, but we're okay for now! These aren't super precious samples, we have more peptide and we don't need the data for a deadline. We'll order more (once I figure out what, exactly, the part number is) and in the meantime, the other LCs are happily chugging along
November 29, 2025 at 10:43 PM
This is the sample pickup needle or something else?
