.@kelseyhightower.com: “Twenty years of one-year experience isn’t growth.”

He argues that DevOps only scales when teams translate learning into tools.

Debugging your crashed Kubernetes app can be a pain. But there are some useful open source tools that can help you out. Here, Emidowojo walks you through debugging k8s pods with Traceloop so you can trace system calls and figure out exactly what went wrong.

Kubernetes is a popular container orchestration tool that helps you efficiently deploy, manage, & scale your apps. But deploying K8s clusters in the cloud can be complex. Here, Beau teaches you how to use Amazon's EKS + the IaC tool Pulumi to make it smoother.

I still find it pretty crazy that Europe doesn’t have a cloud company. (Yes I know about OVH and Hetzner and such, I mean something at least as good as AWS from 15 years ago though.)
US Dominance: 70% of ALL the data centers in the world are in one country.

The state of Virginia alone has more compute than Western Europe.

FT's big new piece on "The AI power crunch" is staggering.

More hard truths

There are lots of kinds of SREs and it’s very hard to target bare metal folks vs kubernetes folks

It’s nightmare for recruiters too
i have done so myself for a while, but i am now seeing mulitple people on fuckin linkedin rant about alleged devops who sling containers about but can't use bash

just have no idea how a unix box works

and now i know why bash is a job skill one has to list

I flew to Amsterdam and did an interview with the @jetbrains.com team. We covered everything from DevOps to AI, and why I think it's so important for people to constantly reflect on their careers to avoid having 20 years of 1 year experience.
@kelseyhightower.com on platform engineering:
The deployment inputs you ask for – version, CPU, memory, disk, region – are the API your developers rely on.
VMware, cloud, whatever the backend is… the API is what matters.

Fantastic interview with @kelseyhightower.com. Discusses DevOps, open source, AI hype and personal growth.

"All paths lead to self-learning"
"When people wear a title, they forget to evolve"
"Senior engineer, junior human"

The story about his first contribution to Kubernetes is inspiring 🎉!
Good video capturing journey of our industry, and the following topics: from servers to containers and serverless, #DevOps vs. #Platform engineering, of course #Kubernetes, of course #AI too 😜, tool sprawl/complexity and what's next? Worth a watch and Kelsey sharing his wisdom and experience!
It's rare that I get to reflect back on my entire tech career and my philosophy towards work and life, but this interview captures it perfectly. One of the few recordings of myself I've watched end to end. www.youtube.com/watch?v=HdUb...

The original React2shell PoC is now public. This is as bad as it gets – full RCE. You must upgrade now. There are mitigations in place in CDNs including Cloudflare, Netlify, Vercel and AWS (and sites on Workers aren't vulnerable to this sort of attack), but there are variants in the wild now.
