While independent bookstores are giving out free whistles, hosting protest sign making events, and donating proceeds to mutual aid, Amazon is *checks notes* providing technology that assists ICE in their terrorizing of communities.

Independent bookstores deserve your support. Amazon does not.

Walz: "To Americans who are watching this, I've got a question for you: What side do you want to be on? The side of an all powerful federal govt that can kill, injury, menace, & kidnap its citizens off the streets? Or on the side of a nurse at the VA hospital who died bearing witness to such govt?"

Hey “ALL LIVES MATTER” people—federal fascists just killed two white people.

Where y’all at?🤔

Oh right. It was never *actually* about all lives mattering. It was just a slogan to undermine Black lives mattering. Yeah we saw your hypocrisy & racism then. And we see your cowardice & fascism now too.

I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.

I did a bad job of actually participating in booksky last year but want to do a better job in 2026. I’m making it The Year of the Tome, in which I tackle some of the massive books occupying my shelves. Beginning witttthhh the much anticipated Will of the Many!

Yikes! My idea to post about books this year was thwarted by my own dislike of social media 🤦🏻‍♀️ Maybe I’ll get back to it… thoughts?

Continuing on the music memoir theme, I just finished reading @laurajanegrace.bsky.social’s book today. Stunner of a read.

What else have I forgotten to post about reading while I was on Bluesky hiaitus?

For starters, I listened to two rockin’ memoirs (pun intended) almost back to back: Down with the System by Serj Tankian, and Fahrenheit 182 by Mark Hoppus. I recommend both for sure

I wrote in detail. Maybe too much detail. I refused to describe myself in generic terms, like 'loving' and 'caring'. You could be a serial killer with a necklace of human ears who absolutely adores your 12 axolotls and still call yourself caring.

Perfect. Go read this.

They look like well-dressed cartoons. Something about Lila’s pants looking too clean or Gary's blazer too checked. … There is something embarrassing about watching a couple take photos like this. Watching a couple try to be a couple, even though they are a couple.

"Lost, unsent letters from the other world. I found them rotting inside a damp crumbling box. They smelled foul & were covered with mold & dirt, all their words & sentiments decayed. That is what happens when words are left unsaid. It does not matter how beautiful they are. In time, everything rots.

Finished the quick and light Heartbreak is the National Anthem by @rollingstone.com’s Rob Sheffield. I primarily found it amusing and easter-egg riddled, written by a Swifty for Swifties. One wry nugget I particularly enjoyed, though, was this excerpt about That Thing That Happened At The VMAs.
