What we are going to have to do in the coming years is build out a whole lot of parallel institutions that can do the work previously assigned to the state, most especially civic education.

Eventually I will find my way to excitement for that project but right now the prospect exhausts me

Happy May 1st. The value of your labor belongs to you and the actions of the state are best understood as as a coordinated effort to distract you from this. The state fears an organized and unified proletariat like it fears death and rightly so. Power to the workers and power to the people

“Where was _crime_victim_’s due process?”

THAT’S ONE OF THE CHIEF CHARACTERISTICS OF CRIME YOU MORONS

DUE PROCESS UNDER THE LAW IS WHAT (barely) SEPARATES THE DEMOCRATIC STATE FROM A CRIME SYNDICATE

People need to be crystal clear about something: The requirement that the government ANSWER to a court on the legal basis for detaining someone is literally the core liberty right (habeas corpus). If the government says they don’t have to do that bc “national security,” YOU can be disappeared.

Basic data literacy fail

Everyone should read Seeing Like a State, because, buddy, if you think that data reflects reality in anything like a straightforward way or gives you an uncomplicated tool to manipulate it, are you ever in for a rude awakening
Johnson: "Elon's cracked the code. He's now inside these agencies. He's created these algorithms that are constantly crawling through the data & as he told me in his office, data doesn't lie. We're gonna be able to get the information. We're gonna be able to transform the way federal govt works."

Dear Tim Apple: keyboard cleaning mode for MacBooks, please, where the thing is the dead, bricked, inert, for exactly two minutes

But social democracy, which is committed to capitalism, resolves the tension through imperialism.Social democratic states appropriate cheap labour and nature from the global South, thus allowing them to offer good wages and public services at home while maintaining capital accumulation.

I may not believe in a God, as conventionally understood. But I believe in the future so deeply, it might as well be the same thing: not as an inevitability, but as a sacredness worthy of personal sacrifice. And I reserve the right to apply a mythopoetic user interface in service to that Future.
