In a world where we can't believe anything recorded on video or posted on social media is actually real, do we go back to talking to people in person?

That one time when 2 TV actors tried to hit on us as we were counting our cash. As though fame deserves a discount & not a price bump. We laughed in their faces & then ignored them. They loved it. So would you 💋💅

literally bombing boats he claims contain drugs while also cutting funding for substance use treatment is so quintessentially this man's necropolitics

I know this might not feel important right now, but words make the world. Using disabled experience as a metaphor for abled experience deprives that language of its specific & necessary meaning and underscores our erasure in public life. It ensures we don't get to be protagonists, just costumes.

Ablist phrases to get out of your vocabulary because you're a kind person who doesn't want to casually or accidentally hurt others with your words:

"Blind spot" as a metaphor

"Paralyzed" as a metaphor

"Crippled" in reference to anything, not just people - this word is a slur

"Wheelchair bound"

Toni Morrison: "“Fascism talks ideology, but it is really just marketing—marketing for power. It is recognizable by its need to purge, by the strategies it uses to purge, and by its terror of truly democratic agendas."

The skeleton key to unlock the Trump administration is to understand that everything it does is for the sake of posting. It wants to get likes and shares. And it is specifically captured by a neo-Nazi, fascist audience that wants images of torture, violence, and murder, especially of minorities.

There's nothing worse, when you know you've been discriminated against, than someone not in your stigmatized cohort being like, "I'm sure they didn't mean it."

Don't be that guy

Trump is asking us to start choosing groups we're willing to abandon, and the only way to make him stop is to be clear we're not fucking abandoning ANYONE.

Call your reps. Call your fucking reps. Especially in red states. Use the @5calls.org app, it's easy and free.

Relatedly: I get so annoyed when people push me to try to be "independent":
loreleilee.bsky.social
People hate the disabled because we demonstrate the fact that people need people. All of you are interdependent on each other, and we make you face that. You're terrified of us for making clear that you cannot survive alone. You want us out of sight so you can keep pretending

🎯 The currently non-disabled also don't want to face the fact that at any moment they could become one of us, and like any normative group that oppresses Others, they fear being on the receiving end of the same discriminatory behaviors they currently engage in.

The philosopher Eva Feder Kittay has an interesting take on this: Starting from interdependency doesn't go far enough.

Every human starts life completely dependent, many end life dependent, and everyone spends some of the time in between dependent. Some only a little time, some a lot.

Also the environments where disabled people are physically or mentally (think autism) unable to enter the room.
So, less visible to society at large, less opportunity for non disabled people to benefit from getting to know people with a disability.
Disabled are still fighting the visibility factor

This is it. Abled people are so afraid of being reliant on community that you don't even realize how interdependent on each other you are. The only reason ANY of us live is because we rely on each other. The disabled are just more visible about it.

What's so wild is that if you leaned our way a bit, you'd see acknowledging we need each other - offering care according to need and capacity - is a much richer and more satisfying way to live. It's only the change that's painful

i would again like to remind everyone that NEGATING A FRAME REINFORCES IT

"he's not really targeting criminals" makes it an argument about criminality

"this is a fascist attack" states what is actually happening

START WITH WHAT IT IS
not what it isn't

Also, please, you must consider how pornography fits into an entire media landscape. It does not exist on an island but rather is in constant dialogue w other forms of public media! If you don't consider this, your analysis will be just plain incorrect!
