Alliteration always works for me. "Mannequin memories." Nice.

For this week's #PoemsAbout #Mannequin with thanks to host @alanparrywriter.co.uk @thebrokenspine.co.uk and all those participating. An odd one to think about. Look forward to seeing what others have written.

Smiles, poorly painted on ghastly echoes of mannequin memories

(I will use bits of this in a rondel I was playing with, so call this a preview)

Love the first line. It's soft and leads into what is to come well.

For #PoemsAbout #Mannequin here is ‘Disjointed’

Big shout to @alanparrywriter.co.uk @thebrokenspine.co.uk for creating this space to share with a vast array of prompts.

Will catch up later…
Disjointed

Dreamsoft hands
replaced with fury-fists.

Gentle shoulders splinter
in vicetwist—
you carried the weight
of her malignant trivialities
for too long

my efforts to speak up
reduced to failed
staccato stilted silence
by my

             planed plastic tongue.

DAVID

The David is a dickless white guy
salvaged from a JCPenny anchor store
that shuttered at the mall in Ghost Town
during the last pandemic
who greets you at the ringing door
holds your cap or umbrella
and listens to your worst bullshit
better than your latest best friend forever
over latte and biscotti
at Michelangelo’s café and gallery
where the roast is local but not provincial
the art is organic and the word survival
is printed by hand on the bottom
of your to go cup but it’s no guarantee
because when you leave this oasis
you’re on your own in the urban desert.

Good morning #poetry community here for @thebrokenspine.co.uk #PoemsAbout #mannequin prompt and Hello to maestro @alanparrywriter.co.uk I wasn’t going to contribute but this popped out when I thought about how my sister was lured into dubious modelling when she was just 16.. Thanks for the prompt.
A poem by Debbie Ross

A Promising Career
First she had head shots, posed with a black trilby and bleached blonde hair.
Next he wanted body shots, posed in red suede boots black fish nets and a cashmere jumper.
I don't know what came after that, she never said.
She keeps a photo on her mantle, to remind her she's so much
more than mannequin.

For #poemsabout #mannequin, I write about Elena Milagro de Hoyos and Carl Tanzler. I read about them in a library book when I was quite young, and have never forgotten what I read.

Break my stiff body
into equal parts.
Give me her arm,
their legs
and his head -

in my hands.

Make me whole again.

I want to look into those eyes.
I want to drink deep
from the plastic lips
until they are soft,
mine.
