CAREER ADVICE: It’s so important to schedule five minutes between meetings so you can scream, cry, or lie on your back and stare at the ceiling.

When I was a baby scientist, I always thought it would be so cool to be like my professors and jet set across the county.

This dinner of champions is making me question my life choices.

Multiple things can be true at once:

1. Oct 7th was the worst collective trauma Jews have experienced in our lifetimes

2. The war on Gaza is a horror

3. Antisemitism is rising

4. Islamophobia is rising

Those trying to use one of these to cancel others are making things worse

Anti-Muslim and anti-Jewish hate online stems from the same fringe, white supremacist communities who target both groups interchangeably, finds Hobbs, @nazita.bsky.social, Li & Lucas, suggesting we need to consider hate against both groups in tandem

An unconventional advice for those on TT market: Consider negotiating a set of funds to help others. I + others have negotiated $$ to host diversity-related events at conferences and for community outreach. We often think startup $ is just for our own research and lab, but I want us to think bigger.

It also isn’t lost on me that much of the push for open science practices has been occurring in parallel with more people (esp those at less prestigious programs) entering/attempting to enter academia
I am pretty much convinced the replication crisis and open science are passé, trite, and deserve no deeper analysis any more at the level of individual researchers actions. Not even willing to die on this hill because it's just so wrong-headed to think this way: I can't engage.

Please donate to my fundraiser, the Palestine Children Relief's Fund. Regardless of your side, I hope you can agree that innocent children should not suffer for the acts of adults. I'm hoping for $10,000, but any amount you can donate will certainly help.

To paraphrase @lrkhazem.bsky.social, proof that I actually scienced over the last four days and wasn’t just eating tapas. The IASR/AFSP Summit was phenomenal! Great research happening globally to better understand suicide and its prevention, and I’m so grateful to be part of it.

Now for vacation!
