Bad-faith accusations of fraud were also used to undermine Reconstruction efforts. Du Bois disputes the notion at great length but notes its uncritical acceptance by white historians. Today, Musk/Trump frame their attacks on USAID, social security, etc. in similar terms.

2. This was a major tactic used by ACT UP organizers in the past, and has proven to be highly effective. By pulling the heartstrings of everyday employees who are responsible for trans lives, we can force the institutions to change from the streets.
