The idea that there should be a public debate about the appropriate medical care for a minuscule population of children remains one of the most absurd lies that these liberal transphobes, NYT edit board included, tell themselves. No there shouldn’t! It’s not an appropriate matter for public debate!
It should be recognized that society is still grappling with the cultural and policy implications of the rapidly shifting understanding of gender. There are some issues - such as participation in sports and appropriate medical care for minors - that remain fiercely debated, even by those who broadly support trans rights. There should be room for those conversations. But what shouldn't be debated is whether the government should target a group of Americans to be stripped of their freedom and dignity to move through the world as they choose. This is a campaign in which cruelty and humiliation seem to be the fundamental point.

I’ve gotten shit for saying this in the past, but the reigning conservative attitude is playground bully. Not just mean, but juvenile. Adults should be embarrassed to partake in it. And I think at least some of this behavior is influenced by internet culture, which is dominated by actual children.

FYI, folks from Bluesky. Workers at The Barn, among other agricultural buildings, are now shutting the door after the horse got out. Shutting the door, telling people the door is shut, is a form of accountability for the horse that’s now completely free.

FYI, folks from Bluesky. Reporters at The NYT, among other news organizations, are now generating a giant wave of accountability stories about the new Trump era. Reading these stories, sharing them, is a form of accountability as well. It is a form of participatory democracy too. Substance matters.
