I think it is important to understand, that AI hallucinations are not just "some" mistake an AI makes, that will be cleaned out at some newer version, but an inherent result of how LLMs work. They are build to create coherent results, here scientific references, not to be accurate.

All three of NATO's nuclear powers are currently experiencing periods of domestic political turmoil, which is not great to put it mildly.

While the hightened awareness to drone activity in Europe is commendable and important, increasing political attention and media reporting will also result in false positives. Just remember the New Jersey drone scare, where most of the sightings turned out to be lawfully operating manned aircraft.
None Of The New Jersey Visual Drone Sightings Have Been Corroborated: White House
The White House says federal, state, and local authorities have not corroborated any purported visual sightings of drones over New Jersey.

Ah, schade. Aber man könnte es doch so schön mit "Je kürzer die Reichweite, umso toter die Deutschen.", überschreiben.

It's easy to see this speech as just weirdly performative, but there's a lot more—and a lot worse—going on here.

The meeting & speeches are part of a larger project aimed at promoting the military leadership’s partisan alignment with the administration.

The problem with having vilified Trump so often is that now that he says and does openly fascist policies, many people will hardly noticed.

This 'shock and yawn' process created by so many scandals is a real danger given what was a barely disguised declaration of war against internal opposition.

Trump: "The ones that are run by radical left Democrats -- what they've done to San Francisco, Chicago, New York, Los Angeles. They're very unsafe places & we're gonna straighten them out one by one. This is gonna be a major part for some people in this room. That's a war too. It's war from within"

I wonder if Europeans' fear of abandonment will eventually turn into fear of entrapment.

I spent the week at the police surveillance convention and let me tell you my biggest observation: The name of the game now is consolidating as much information as humanely possible from surveillance devices, the internet, other governmental data, and literally a million other places. 🧵

Climate change & nuclear weapons are often seen as twin threats to future generations. My new open access article shows that while both pose similar moral dilemmas, intergenerational nuclear injustice is harder to spot—and harder to fix.

I don’t understand the framing of this Politico story at all. Trump’s post is saying Europe is strong enough to back Ukraine on its own…. US is out, hence he closes with “Good luck to all.” This ain’t good.

Wouldn't European governments and the strategic community have had a collective heart attack if any other sitting US president before had publicly said, “we just can't ever use them”? Remember the fuss about "sole purpose"? But in a Trump speech full of crazy stuff, that just gets lost?
joecirin.bsky.social
From Trump’s rambling incoherent UN speech today. “And I look at weapons that are so powerful that we just can’t ever use them. If we ever use them, the world might literally come to an end. There’d be no United Nations to be talking about. There’d be no nothing.”
lukasmengelkamp.bsky.social
Question: Has a US president ever explicitly and publicly said "we just can't ever use them" while in office? Of course there is "a nuclear war cannot be won and must never be fought" but even that is not that explicit. Asking for all those who put their faith in extended deterrence.
