You are very wrong on that.
This photo is of an insane traffic jam in Amsterdam in the 1970s. The cars are packed into basically gridlock conditions. The Netherlands went very car-centric after WWII, and the country has since almost completely reinvented itself to become a go-to example of walkability, bikeability, and transit access. This demonstrates how it is NOT futile to want to end car dependence in our cities. Motor vehicles will exist, but our society does not need to be oriented around them.
