i phrased that weirdly,

of drives where the QB gets sacked at some point, the percentage of those that end in a TD is something like 8%

wow you get to see a 2pt conversion AND a team successfully challenging 2 calls and getting the secret extra bonus challenge lol
December 7, 2025 at 11:52 PM
yeah getting sacked is way worse than just no change of field position. the portion of drives that have a sack and end in a touchdown is crazy low like 8%.

i'd be happy to give like an intro lesson on offensive and defensive formations lol
December 7, 2025 at 10:54 PM
hell yeah!!!

A whole lot of the potential success or failure of a play rests on the linemen
December 7, 2025 at 10:39 PM
ok fair lol

In general, if the offensive linemen all step backward, it's pass protection, and if they all push forward, it's to block for a run. But there can be some trickery and sideways movement and such. U can watch for if any defenders get through, where gaps form, stuff like that.

It's easy to get drawn into just tracking the ball BUT I recommend trying to focus on the linemen at least for the first couple seconds of the play and then like follow the ball once it's thrown or handed off
December 7, 2025 at 10:33 PM
Once you get a feel for what the formations look like, though, you can identify who is the offense and who is the defense right away.

This isn't your fault; FOX has the absolute worst on-screen graphic design. Most broadcasts will have a little • or little football icon that stays visible on a side of the lil scoreboard graphic indicating who has the ball. FOX only indicates it with the little down & distance bar over the score.

when the Center (offensive line guy with the ball) sends the ball thru his legs to the Quarterback to start the play

The Center snaps the ball to the Quarterback
December 7, 2025 at 10:23 PM
like it could be 4 defensive linemen and 1 linebacker rushing in with them, and/or 1 cornerback (typically covers a receiver) rushing in from the side
