Earlier this year, Dr. Jane Goodall sat down for an interview for Brad Falchuk’s new Netflix series, Famous Last Words.

The premise of the series is to interview people on the condition that the interview not air until the subject has passed away.

...What are the models underlying your own games' rules? Let's examine them and see what there is to see.

Roundtable Conversation: Underlying Models

Every game has them — intentional or not, coherent or not. Meguey and Vincent lay out the models underlying the rules of their games Apocalypse World, Under Hollow Hills, and Psi*Run...

She cried and begged, but her father made her go.

Thus my mom, then thus me.

Strange.

She told me that she didn't think much of it. Every Sunday afternoon she'd write letters to friends and family, and one of them was to him.

He proposed to her by sending her a train ticket to Utah with a letter that said "you're father's agreed that I can marry you."

This morning for no reason in particular I'm thinking about my grandmother. When she was a teenager in Kentucky, this guy stayed at her house for a few months - he was a Mormon missionary, staying with her Mormon family. This would have been in the 40s.

They were pen pals after he left.

We are not asking for a boycott! Creators & Allies: Please continue to support & use the platform
swipe for ways to show your solidarity Why We're Striking
A codified 4-day work week.
We simply want to protect the way we've been working for over 3.5 years. The 4dww has proven benefits, such as increased productivity and improved employee satisfaction. It's part of what makes Kickstarter a special, innovative place to work.
Fair pay for our lowest-paid workers.
We're fighting for livable minimum salaries for roles that are undervalued by the market but crucial to keeping Kickstarter running. We believe none of our workers should struggle to make ends meet. Creators

The history of RPG design has a familiar right-hand path — what-if wargaming — and a more obscure left-hand path. Improv theater games, Surrealist and Situationist games, New Games, parlor games, storytelling games... back into the Renaissance and presumably further.

Spin the Bottle is an interesting one, surviving as a teenage game (if anyone still plays it).

Generally the Victorian versions, played between adults, had a bit of a thrill to them, low but real social stakes in the form of being put on the spot or being put in flirty circumstances together.

A bunch survive, somewhat evolved, as mixer games and family party games now, like Charades, Encore, In the Manner of the Adverb. Others as children's party games like Musical Chairs or Blind Man's Bluff.

The thing I bring into my game design from Surrealist games is using off-kilter questions to startle the player into a moment of unfiltered creativity or reflection.

The thing I bring into my game design from Victorian parlor games is a rhythm of social awkwardness, suspense, and resolution.

One of my heroes from childhood is #JaneGoodall
I’m very saddened to hear of her death. It would be a great tribute to her legacy if we could, y’know, save the planet and extend compassion to other species that we share it with.

Quite pleased with this micro review of Booker prize winner, Milkman by Anna Burns. It's a #2025ReadingChallenge number 39, but who's counting. I'm impressed I managed to shoehorn in a TTRPG thought that connects this book - the troubles, gossip - to #PbtA play books.

I picked up Milkman, laughably because I thought it was a science fiction book, and I thought, ‘That’s interesting, a sci-fi novel that is also a Booker...
