FYI, The Light Chasers, the sci fi musical that @jesshutchinson.bsky.social and I made based on the album Light Chasers by Cloud Cult is still available as Video on Demand!

It's a photo from the stage production of The Light Chasers! No spoilers, but the cast is in jump suits, looking on as a young woman seems to have just crossed through a homemade stargate!

I wondered why I hadn't been getting new issues of Lower Decks comics and then realized that Things From Another World shut down their website back in April.

If the top 100 billionaires each gave a one time contribution of a billion dollars to an endowment for the arts, every performing arts non profit in the country could be substantially funded forever.

And even the bottom billionaire on that list would still be worth over $11 billion.

Here's the list of most philanthropic billionaires:

Edythe Broad, Warren Buffett, Melinda French Gates, Bill Gates, Reed Hastings, Amos Hostetter Jr., Dustin Moskovitz, Lynn Schusterman, MacKenzie Scott, Marilyn Simons and George Soros.

It currently takes 3.8 billion to make it onto the Forbes 400 list of richest Americans.

In 2025, only 11 of the 400 have a "Philanthropy Score" of 5 out of 5 (a donation of 20% or more of their wealth).

74% of the list scored either a 1 or a 2 on that metric, having donated less than 5%.

Thirty paintings created by the bushy-haired, soft-spoken Bob Ross will soon be up for auction to defray the costs of programming for small and rural public television stations suffering under cuts in federal funding. https://to.pbs.org/4nEQMrw

I've had the Foxy Shazam song from the season 2 opening of Peacemaker stuck in my head for the last two weeks.

"but it's everywhere now so we just have to accept it's the new reality" motherfucker we can just stop putting it everywhere! we did it with asbestos and CFCs and lead-based paint or petrol and make-up with arsenic in it! if everyone is using something and it's bad, we can choose to stop!

"anti-AI people should just learn more about it" motherfucker I know so much about it, that's why I'm anti-AI

ANYWAY, I got some very cool news at the end of last week regarding a personal theatre project I've been hoping to tackle for a while, and the prospect of getting to play and experiment in a space again with something brand new is very exciting.

I certainly didn't take it for granted, but having that kind of artistic home for 17 years (7 as resident designer, 10 as Producing AD) was an amazing thing... though it was also a truly crushing, unsustainable workload.

The things I miss most about being an artistic director of a theatre are:

1) Finding cool scripts or people with exciting ideas for shows and saying YES, let us make that and also pay everyone.

2) Brainstorming cool ideas and then making them reality with a collaborative team while paying people.

And, of course, train would take 70 hours.

Not feeling great about getting on a plane next week!

Regrettably with only 36 hours between a final dress on one coast and a designer run on the other, there's not really enough time to drive.

Subscribe to The Onion. I want to have more subscribers than The Free Press as soon as possible. This is achievable.

In exchange, when we sell the company to a drone and cobalt magnate so I can dive in a pool of gold coins Scrooge McDuck-style, you will be spared my wrath and retribution.

And, IMO, 99% of bad theatre can be improved by More Thoughtfully Staging Transitions... which is also pacing.

(the 1% exception are the shows that don't really have transitions.)

90% of bad theatre could be improved if the actors would Act Faster.

10% would be improved if they Acted Slower.

Knowing the difference is Directing!

One of the things we are going to have to be very, very aware of is that a lot of people who are being heavily armed right now will simply not be willing to accept the results of a democratic election because they will go to jail.

So many of the best pieces of theatre I've made in my career were seen by fewer than 1000 people.

Some of the shows I'm most proud of were seen by fewer than 500.

This is just brutal. Oscar winners out of work for a year and a half. So many of my friends who have been constantly employed by the film industry for more than a decade are completely out of work - and resources. www.wsj.com/business/med...
