🌧️ Correlation distances of precipitation gauges vary in both space and time! New work out in @agu.org's GRL, led by @alexayeo.bsky.social (with @lakeographer.bsky.social and me) examines precip correlation distances over the US. Check it out: agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1029/...

Renewables deal flow is ramping back up, but developers and financiers remain apprehensive about the longer-term fallout from disappearing wind and solar incentives. My latest: 🔌💡

So is Canada a #petrostate, doomed to be a long run rustbelt, or an #electrostate rising into the future? Maybe it's a choice between two states of mind, vision, planning & governance. Can we go our own "Norway"? See our essay, p73 of the global DDP report. ddpinitiative.org/wp-content/u...

The continued rapid growth of solar generation meant that renewables overtook coal for the first time.

Coal generation dipped slightly compared to the first half of 2024, with renewables continuing to grow.

NEW | Electricity generation from fossil fuels fell in China and India in the first half of 2025 🔥📉

This marks a reversal from previous trends.

Simultaneously, there was a small uptick in the US and in the EU.

Imagine - i had my physical and because I was a new patient I had to pay basically $200, and then I got referred to a derm and that was $400. With insurance. And if you call the clinic they'll just take 10-20% off cuz why not. Been getting random bills for a year.

The +spouse and kid is $500/mo min with much higher deductible etc. getting on the low deductible is $1k/mo for spouse+kid, $260 for an individual
lvulis.bsky.social
Yeah I was actually just checking my premiums with open enrollment coming up. For a high deductible plan it's gonna be $150 a month (up from $128), like a $3600 deductible and out of pocket max is huge. Anyways also basically need to pay a bill entirely before insurance kicks in.

Well, it's benefits election time again...

Starting next year, after we add a child to our health insurance policy, we'll be paying $574/month for health insurance, and that's just our portion. My wife's employer covers the rest.

This post written for my non-US audience. ☝️

Wait wait what? I just heard from a weather forecasting startup that their vineyard clients all bailed and the startup blamed it at least partially on hit Canadian sales.
