Good morning! I’m at the Broadview Detention Facility in Chicago, Illinois. Several dozen protesters are here protesting against the ramp up in federal deportation raids in the Chicago area. Things are testy already, several attempted arrests from DHS.

After leaving his immigration hearing with his sleeping daughter in his arms, a man is confronted by ICE and CBP. He passes the child to his wife in the waiting room, shares tearful goodbyes, and is then detained and escorted toward the staircase where he’ll be brought to the 10th floor.

Another time, I’ve heard a judge upset that multiple people showed up virtually instead of in person and called for their immediate removal.

It’s unfortunately not that simple. Virtual hearings are really hard to get. And yesterday two people tried to do virtual and the judge demanded that they come in person at 2 PM that same day.

After her hearing at 26 Federal Plaza, a woman was detained and escorted toward the stairwell. Her husband, confused and in shock, was guided toward the exit. Minutes later, he broke down in the elevator. They entered together, but he left alone. This happens here daily. #ICE
