Saint Seiya: Knights of the Zodiac(1986-1989) by Toei Animation

Old anime rules lol, took me like 8 months to actually finish this due to it being a bit of a group-watch. Skipped most of the filler for now, but its still incredibly enjoyable. Kurumada should be investigated for crack.

Another really cool book recommendation for #MythologyMonday is Japandamonium by @hirokoyoda.bsky.social and @mattalt.bsky.social. It's a translation of Toriyama Sekien's 18th century yokai encyclopedias and includes the illustrations with translation and annotations, see the images below.

Dropping in just to add that I've seen this backlash in fan spaces towards darker and edgier works (i.e. magical girl shows of the 2010s) where the proposed ideas for a "wholesome" genre show is somehow more sanitized than anything that's actually been done in the genre.

It feels... overreactive.
