If the only goal of technological progress is to remove pain and friction, you will eventually have nothing left, because life is suffering. We must have better goals in mind.

Proving your data existed before a point in time (aka trusted timestamping) is now easier than ever before! Thanks Stanford, this is the most accessible way I've seen of doing this.

@bnewbold.net any chance upcoming Go lexicon codegen changes will involve go-dasl?

sneak peek of a little atproto app i’ve been working on. it’s called sidetrail

it is for sharing “trails”. a trail is a sequence of stops where you do, learn, or think. a trail feels personal — it is whatever “worked for you”

ATProto is specifically designed against this, but it seems unavoidable due to moderation. I guess it still does better in the general case?
While I'm grateful tools like this exist, to me this is still an unacceptable experience. We can do better than the disconnected posts, profiles only visible on certain sites, inability to do global search, and inaccurate like/follow counts that are tolerated on other decentralized networks. 6/11

I've noticed something similar where ATproto monetization seems quite difficult, as you can't do the usual things of gatekeeping user accounts or data. Charging for an app view is hard if anyone can come along and undercut you with no switching cost.
