This is part of why I'm uneasy about European nuclear deterrence in what may be a post-NATO order; the states who have those weapons can't actually arm them without US DoD launch codes, no matter who has them. So the only states in Europe with nukes *they control* are Russia, France, and the UK.

The thing is that iirc France is one of only two European countries with their own nuclear weapons; most countries in Europe that have them are just hosting US weapons. France has gotta be hanging onto theirs pretty tight right about now
