Jeebus. He’s STILL insisting that he’s lowering drug prices by more than 100%. But somehow he’s supposed to be a financial genius, right?

A nice summary from a longtime observer of the war in Ukraine of how the United States' "negotiations" in that conflict are driven by locking in opportunities for Trump's friends and donors to reap (additional) vast riches from the lifting of Russian sanctions.

Heinz-Wilhelm Eck, commander of the German U-boat U-582, was tried, convicted, condemned, and executed after the war for ordering his crew to shoot the survivors of a Greek merchantman, using exactly this same rationalization.
Exclusive: Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth gave an order to “kill everybody” in the first strike on suspected drug boats in the Caribbean. After two men survived, the mission commander ordered a second strike to comply with Hegseth’s instructions, according to two sources.
Hegseth order on first Caribbean boat strike, officials say: Kill them all
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth issued a verbal order to kill all crew members in the Sept. 2 strike on a suspected drug boat. Navy SEALs fired a second missile.

A quick follow-up to my post of the late 1840s chart of the entrance to Galveston Bay:

I tried overlaying the chart on that location today in Google Earth, and quickly realized the scale (upper right) is WAY off, about 1.3nm in length and not the 2nm stated.

Tonight's historical Galveston image is a nautical chart of the entrance to Galveston Bay, published as an inset to a larger chart showing the coastline of the northern Gulf of Mexico, published in about 1849.

Look I keep saying this - the most nuns I personally met or know about were women uninterested in the constraints of patriarchal society. While the church of course has those too a convent still frees you up from marriage to men and pressures to have children, and gives you access to education.

Fuuuu. . . .
Just got an email from my SRO for the study section that was missed in October. Good news is that they are trying to reschedule ASAP (Dec/Jan). The bad news is that CSR is mandating that only the the top third (not half) of applications will get discussed for the next 2 rounds.

A full-scale replica of the Mayflower was built in England and sailed to Plymouth, MA in 1957. It was given as a gift to honor the alliance of friendship formed between the UK and the USA during WW2. The story of the Mayflower II coming tomorrow, as a Thanksgiving treat.

One of the bragging rights that the US ed system had in the 20th century is that we didn't have education tracks. Essentially, any kid could go to a CC or state school & major in whatever they wanted to (obviously an oversimplification). I fear this aspect of the American dream is dying.

There’s already a long list of Republicans declared to run against Jon Ossoff next year. Crowded field.

Obviously, she has more name recognition than all of the others combined, but I don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing in her case.
