Big Oil is "wildly desperate to dodge the growing array of lawsuits over the damage caused by their decades-long scheme to deceive the public about climate change," writes @aaronregunberg.bsky.social.

The fossil fuel industry is again urging the Supreme Court to help them escape accountability.
The Supreme Court’s Ethics Code Is a Joke. Big Oil Knows That.
Oil companies want the Supreme Court to intervene to dismiss lawsuits about climate change. Amy Coney Barrett and Samuel Alito both have big conflicts of interest on that front.

This is really good to see: Miki Sherrill just put out a statement sharply criticizing the Senate Dems' pending cave in the government shutdown, ripping it as "malpractice" and a betrayal of the people who are "counting on us to fight for them." Sherrill knows what drove her victory. Wake up, Dems.

Don’t listen to Bill Gates on environment and climate change. 1) he is no expert, and we shouldn’t assume that a very successful, wealthy person is wise. 2) climate change is part of a complex of threats to Nature and human life. 3) We should wonder why he’s changed his tune on climate risk.

Fall bounty
I roasted this beautiful pumpkin to use in a West African stew. The pumpkin came from Jones Community Gardens, a miracle of community effort that helps 70 food-insecure seniors every week. I put in a modest hour volunteer work a week, and am blessed in many ways!

The plunder of our seas by industrial fishing is a monstrosity in which almost everyone unwittingly collaborates. For decades this truth has been deliberately hidden from us. Now at last the consensus is cracking.

This has *long* been true of Israel's racist extermination of Palestinians.

This elderly Palestinian man, Sameer, broke down in tears from extreme hunger caused by Israel’s blockade in Gaza. At least 1 in 5 Palestinians faces starvation in Gaza as Israel continues attacks.

Is A River Alive? is published today, 1 May.
It’s about the lives, deaths & rights of rivers—& how our fate flows with that of water & always has.
To the people, places & rivers whose ideas run through its pages, thank you so much.
I think it’s the book I’ve been learning to write all these years.

There is an attempt to obscure the #ClimateCrisis. Read why #neofascism now is worse than that movement in the 20th C. #Environment and #Climate are the container issues.
In many ways, neofascism is more dangerous than 20th century fascism was.

For one thing, it's taking hold at the worst possible juncture: when avoiding climate + ecological armaggedon is paramount.

A core aim of fascism now is crushing all attempts to do so.
