Bruh why would I care if it’s watching? How will watching help? Watch me glow in the dark or something? Tf?

Well now I'm definitely adding Judith Butler to my reading list, both this and and her previous work. If anyone has a recommendation on the best book to wade into first, do let me know.
New Judith Butler book to preorder just dropped.

Agreed, the current default icon for Bluesky needs a some loving attention from a good designer. It at least got improved a bit by my theme on my phone though.

On this day in 1941 Nazi Germans burnt down the Great Choral Synagogue in Riga, 🇱🇻 Latvia. This was the beginning of the Holocaust in Latvia, when 70,000 local Jews and 20,000 from abroad were murdered.

🕯️Today is the the official Commemoration Day of Genocide against the Jews in Latvia

they look like they're imitating what a flip flop looks like when you are in the middle of rolling your ankle

Great article explaining how our defenses against social media manipulation re: elections are less robust now than in 2020. Remarkably, after Jan 6, platforms have chosen to back away, rather than double down, on efforts to mitigate the falsehoods that motivated efforts to overturn the election.
After 2020, it appeared the major social platforms were making progress on civic and election integrity, say Bridget Barrett and @dkreiss.bsky.social. Those gains have reversed- now the picture looks more like it did in 2016:
Platforms are Abandoning U.S. Democracy
Tech platforms appear to be taking a laissez faire approach to elections in 2024, as they did in 2016, say Bridget Barrett and Daniel Kreiss.

This repost IS an endorsement.
Arming Ukraine is the most reliable path to lasting peace. Democracy around the world depends on Ukraine’s victory.

Two things that the world should finally realize.

It's almost as if patriarchal right wing reactionaries who don't care for democracy or human rights see Russia and think "yep, that's the stuff, that's exactly what we're talking about"
Studies need to be conducted on why incels and cryptobros are so susceptible to russian propaganda because it’s getting out of hand

The last few years have made it increasingly apparent that we need to re-evaluate how we internet.
If it’s possible for a huge portion of world’s knowledge and culture to disappear when a company does something very normal (ends) then we’ve messed up

Just a reminder:
* The climate crisis is our fault and we can stop it.
* LGBTQ+ are human beings, real, and deserve dignity
* Russia committed a crime by invading Ukraine.

tl;dr: right-wing extremists, i.e. fascists are the most important political problem of our time.

Elon’s Twitter debacle is the apotheosis of our era, from Brexit and Trump to Russia in Ukraine: self-immolation powered by malice, bigotry, and insecurity, carried out contrary to reason, an ouroboros of idiocy satisfied as long as it damages others while consuming itself.

I truly hope we find our way back into the light.
I feel like my generation experienced Peak Internet and we’re now on a downward trend.

Google Search sucks. You can’t trust Amazon ratings. Twitter & Reddit are at war with their users. Every useful news site is paywalled and every garbage one is free.

Turns out 2010s were the good old days.
